Went to try out for dinner Monday night, wait staff was very pleasant, but had no clue of menu, food was at best 'just ok', high priced, small portions, 80 baht for a can of coke.. felt like I was time warped back to Grammer school cafeteria lunch meal. I'll stick with the Dukes Riverside, but wish them the best, there going to need it.
They had better "lift their game" so to speak.

I see some are having a larf. New transport infrastructure was a key part of the planning for the Convention Center. Waiting for someone who knows about this rather than the misinformed little piggies who no doubt live next to the market.
If you don't read the news you are uninformed, if you do you are missinformed. Oink, oink.

I have a nice map, produced in Germany, of Chiang Mai city, showing all the stations. Just two stops from Kad Suan Keow to the Night Market.
The way the traffic is building up and the huge number of condos under construction, it's getting too much like BKK.
Maybe a public bus service as a first step, but the Song Teows do a good job.
They do a good job of keeping the roads congested, and are hopeless and dangerous drivers as well, and that's being polite.

a pig has just flown past my window
Are you sure the pig wasn't in a skytrain carriage?

Like many of the other people who have posted in this thread, I also live near Maya Mall and I also wonder why there isn't even one single decent western restaurant in the complex. On the 3rd floor of Maya there seems to be an Iraqi restaurant under construction, but that's been going on for a while now with no visible signs of opening any time soon. Perhaps Maya is where the Mexican restaurant is going to open (that would be appropriate, wouldn't it?)? Will they have a Thai mariachi band strolling around serenading the diners? I've got a good name for the place, "Señor Somchai's". Anyone else have a creative name for a Mexican restaurant in Chiang Mai?

It never occurred to me that the original post was meant to slight a particular nationality. I honestly took it as factual reporting.
As did I.
And still do. It's just a story with characters. Just like this forum.

Is the OP a Brit ?, if so should not the point be how embarrassing fellow country folk can be ?
If not a Brit then, the whole purpose of recounting this tale is to criticise another nationality and just using a spurious excuse to do so.
The sheer mention of a nationality invalidates the entire post other than to say....................
"Brits, the women are scum, don't you all agree ?"
Whatever the nationality its certainly not nice behaviour on her part, if it actually happened.
Do not dislike nationalities or races just individuals, sorry but that is just me being worldly rather than insular or bigoted.
It's just a story of something that happened. Please don't turn it into CNN / BBC world news.Nor is it racist in any way, shape or form. It just states she was a Brit.
If she had've been from China it would have said that. C'mon, get a grip, please.
There was zero need to mention the nationality in this instance which is my entire point.
If it was say about a Brit moaning in a British owned place about something the nationality would have relevance for context but possibly little more
This was very clearly not the case in this "episode"
Oh rubbish. Get over it.

DaamNaam, at the corner of Nimman and Suthep, will I be able to see that Fuji shop? If not, do I walk east towards town or west towards the mountain? Thanks!
Sorry i should've mentioned...Turn left at the intersection (towards the moat), it's about 150 M from there on the right.
It's around 120 baht for 12 photos. They have many different size variations and background colours.

"A selection of Rimping products will be available for ordering on line during late-2014".
Anyone know exactly how late in 2014?
At a guess i would say 2015-ish.

Chavs, haha. In Aussie they are called "Housos", folks from the housing commission areas that don't work and are on benefits....
Here's one on tour here in Muang Thai. Shazza.

How is giving good sound advice pointless?
Stack the fridge, fire up the BBQ, tune into the game (or whatever). Great night in, sound advice.
Personally, I watch football at home, but no BBQ
However, I would bet that a great many customers of The Irish Pub, Downunder etc, who probably live in condo's, apartments, rooms etc, somewhere not too far away, simply don't have the screening facilities that some of these places offer. I would imagine there's a few who have it at home, but probably enjoy a bit of company and would rather not stay at home all the time.
And that's what makes this kaleidoscope of life so grand.
I used to be a regular at both UN and True Blue / Up2U in the late 90's and used to love watching the AFL and Cricket with a few coldies.
Wife and kids happen and then one tends to stay at home more often.
I don't have WE-TV hence me asking "The Games" owners if they had AFL on, i would have walked down the road to their lovely establishment and watched a few games over the weekend. Alas, no AFL...Oh well...time to fire up the barbie again.
What happened to Maurice?
Bring back the wet T shirt competitions.
Bars are getting too sterile, when it was Domino it had a wild 'West' feel about it.
Not 100% sure. Last i heard he was in Oz. His brother David is still about from what I hear.
Yes the wild west was won back then. haha

The other end of Nimmenhemin (Suthep Rd) there is Fuji shop that does them, very good service. It's almost opposite the CMU pharmacy, and near the Bangkok Bank.

If you all keep fighting like this, I wont tell you any more stories or adventures - queue a seriously big fight.
No, no, no. Pay them no mind. Keep the tales coming. They remind me of the Creepshow movies / Comics.

Long term vision i guess. The store at Kad Farang is going to be a large supermarket compared to the small grocery shop they have now.
It will be great for Hang Dong, save us "southerners" from getting stuck in the grid lock of the towns traffic. Starbucks, Maccas, Rimping, what more can one ask for...

You can catch those games at "The Game"...Dose not get my business. Where is the NFL, MLB and NASCAR.?
The rest of Chiang Mai will haed to UN Irish or stay home for our sport / drinking sessions. Yada yada..

I wish they would put as much effort into finishing the Kad Farang branch as they did their flashy new website.
Last time i spoke with RP management they said "open April 2014". Looking like maybe April 2015 now, a big maybe.
Maybe they're not in a hurry to lose even more money.
We're forever noting items which are consistently cheaper at Rimping compared with BigC or TL. ACE french fries [Dutch import] are ~ 40 BT/kg lower, also Chaba fruit juice is an excellent buy @ 41BT/L.
I don't think they are in business to lose money. With 9 supermarkets and forever growing i think they're doing just fine.

55 Baht for a small bottle of water is pushing it.
Keep the riff raff out

There are tons of tuk-tuks and songthaews at the ready outside of KSK and Central Airport Plaza. I don't know about the ones waiting outside Maya -- I approached a tuk-tuk waiting there once, soon after opening, and he wanted 150 baht to take me less than 1 km down Huey Kaew. Forget that! I just grabbed a songthaew waiting at the intersection.
That was my point about Promenada -- you'd think there would be transport waiting around outside like there is at other malls. But no! Clearly, this mall is aimed at the demographic who has cars; people who live in the 'burbs. That's fine.
It's great we have so much choice in this town. If I want to see a movie in a nice theater, I can walk to Maya. If I want to pick up a few items in a Rim Ping, I can go to the one at Maya, or take a songthaew to Nim City for more selection. If I want to eat Dave's food, then it's off to River Market, Duke's or call Mike at Meals on Wheels. (It would be nice to have one of Dave's restaurants on this side of town, however) I just don't see the need to go to Promenada very often. Why add to traffic congestion and pollution by owning a car?
That may be true for those of you living in the heart of town.
With little to no public transport out of town a car or bike is the only option.
-
they will be opening another in town within 6 months.
imo, its a tad pricey. not sure who their targeted clientele is, either. its for american sports, but they aint on during thai hours (unless you wanna wake up at 9 am to watch sports and drink beer! oops.
the BIG disappointment is the pool tables. brunswick, yes, but 6 footers and half the shooting areas are obstructed. not exactly going to draw any real players.
That will probably coincide with KF one closing down. Though i hope not.
Get AFL on and lower the food / pint prices and you may get a few of us locals in there.
