  1. oh shit I do

we always tryed to source factory new vehicles when we imported from Canada to Europe, but on occasions we got from dealers stock. With freaking pin stripes customers who had pre purchased didnt want, covered with clear coat.

except for that, I am sure its ok :)

When we did cars back then i don't think there was any such thing as clear coat but if you had that problem 3M actually sell a special brush for removing this type of problem but if it's just the tape it is easily removed.B)

  2. I can't remember the last time I saw pinstripes :D

    Got any pics?

MRO I'm pretty useless at this computer stuff but i will get somebody to take some shots and post them in the next couple of days. Maybe you would also be interested in some AIB Brush work also. Yesterday i came up to a road with 6 police, 5 waved me through but 1 put his hand up for me to stop, so i did. He just pointed at the Hot Rod Style Flames i have on the Bonnet scoop and the sides and said Suwai Mr Don, if that how you spell beautiful, and waved me on. I've been stopped heaps of times just so they can look at talk about it. Completely the opposite to Oz where even when i was a young bloke if you had a flash car with something different about it, the cops would use that for a reason to chase you and give you a bad time.

  3. This type of cheap dress up of cars seems to not exist in Thailand so on a recent trip back to Oz i decided to buy some and also found that it was virtually obsolute there also. So after contacting 3M i was given the info of the only shop in Sydney that still carried the tape. The shop owner turned out to be a Vietnamese guy, one of the boat people when he was a kid, anyway he said that years ago they would do the cars in the saleyards by the dozens but that has all gone now and forgotten. So i brought back 6 x 45 meter rolls in Red, White and Black. I've put the 6mm - 2 line black down the side ridge line on my Pearl White Pajero GT and i think it looks terrific, it breaks the solid white up and shows off the lines of the car, just as it did in the 60's & 70's on Mustangs, Holden Monaro's and the first car i did back then, my 1966 Triumph TR4a, wish i still had that. Anyway if anybody is interested and are close enough to Mukdahan to make it worthwhile and want it done give me a call on 0810474781 and we'll see what can be arranged. On looking at google it seems that it is still very popular in the US and England with many sites to look at.B)

  4. Thanks pnustedt.

I'm and glad your family made it safely Jerrytheyoung - hope the rest of the journey to Nakhon Phanom goes well.

I'm looking forward to spending some time in quieter rural places along the Mekong and it sounds like flooding and rains will have moved on by late November - great news.

    Thanks again

Mukdahan is as dry as a bone. The Mekong has dropped 10 mtrs over the past 6 weeks but there was never any real flooding here, only in a few small areas on the north end of town when the creeks back up during heavy rain. Its currently the best weather in months, blue sky and sunshine.

  5. Thanks MeMock,

Good hotel review and nice photos.

It looks clean and spacious - pity about the hot water and WiFi. For the price and location though ..... might be worth a go?

Would you stay there again or did something else take your fancy?

Thanks again for the reply :-)

The best but not the cheapest place to stay in Muk is the Mukdahan Manor, right on the river. it also has the only western food restaurant in Muk which recently won the 2011 Best Restaurant Award. Check it out.

  6. Moving to Isaan forum for more specific regional information

Where is ROAD, not highway 212. I cannot find it .Which province is it in? For more info., you can delve back into , forum Computers, where a very large number of posts was made about this very subject. However ,to help you on your way, if you do not have access to a land line, you have 2 options, (1)C.A.T. CDMA.which works well, but for how much longer, nobody knows ,due to upgrading to 3G. (2). Satellite, courtesy of Loxley. It works pretty well, It cost me B5,000 to install the dish + B1,600 per month- unlimited. I am now on CDMA< which I prefer. But do try to find the thread in forum Computers ,it will explain many things and help you find a solution to yourproblem

OUR PROPERTY FRONT ONTO HIGHWAY 212 ,this is a 4 lane highway that runs from Ubon Ratchathani to Mukdahan and beyond,

privince is also Mukdahan. The amazing thing is AOT says there is an 8 month wait for a phone line to our house, the distance is about 60metres. Will check the information you suggest. The problem is very few local people know about Internen and Email etc, that is why I look for a recommendation Thank you

I live on the southern edge of Mukdahan city limits- Mukdahan Manor- on the river. My cable service with TT&T was discontinued last February. I finally just got a wireless type system put in last week by TOT. A little receiver bolted to the TV aerial pole and cable run down to the office in my house, cost 2,650 baht. I suggest you go to the TOT office in Muk, walk in -first office on the left, the guy speaks english enough to work out if they have a tower near you.

  7. :whistling: A few years back i remember seeing an ad for Carpet Cleaning by a company in Ubon, can anybody help me with information on this. I have a number of high quality floor rugs that i have had to scrub clean for years by hand but i would really like to have them Machine Cleaned if possible. Any assistance would be appreciated, phone number or address.
  8. Any info on torque figures? Flat like the tafelberg (table mountain) in Cape town?

At this tuning (178HP) the engine is capable of making 400Nm from 1800 RPM, but this may or may not be tuned down to suit the different AT boxes (some markets are tuned as low as 350Nm, others have the full 400Nm). Effective torque on the 5-speed (4WD) model will be even better than all competing brands of course, due to the shorter gearing.

Will update when more solid info comes through.

I test drove the new 2.5 PJS GT 4x4 today, and in the new Brown colour, which isn't to bad at all. The New engine is quite torquey but i thought a little noisier than my 2010 3.2lt. The major difference was the 5 speed box which has a much crisper change when in the manual- Paddle shift mode than the old 4 speed, it really is quick by comparison and with the new Turbo you seem to be in the power band at each change up, no slip or lag, which ever you like to call it, and on the down change the same applies and allows more efficient engine braking as you come into corners. I tried to get the Service Manager to get in my 3.2 and line the 2 up to see the difference in acceleration but he wouldn't as the dealership owners son was with us during the test, but maybe i'll get him on monday when the son isn't around. There is also no rear end Diff whine at any speed in the test car so i immediately said where is my new Diff from Japan, the best they could tell me was that it was still swimming across from Japan, but it is coming. Apart from that the car feels just the same. I did ask if the new electric seats could lay right back flat, but they hadn't tried it yet as in the old model the electric seat cannot whereas the manually operated seat does as shown in the brocure, but thats just a trivial thing. I'm surprised that they still havn't put badges to define the different models, they could easily use the GT badge from the sedan. All in all i think the big plus is the 5 speed box. I think i will have to wait for the first write off in the area grab the box out of it.

  9. I can see the Mitsu looks like sitting in an arcade driving game

Interesting observation. There should be enough resolution in those images to do a button count :)

Perhaps it's an age thing with me cos looks like for a teenager. :D Mitsu have obviously gone that route to attract more sales but has it worked.

You may have just hit the nail on the head there.. Most PJS owners I know (including myself) are in their 30's to mid 40's, while most Fortuner owners I know are 55-80. Perhaps the different design styles just appeal to different generations? Make sense the more I think about it..

Hey Fellas, I'm 63 and still a boy racer. How do you make a Fortuner look like it's flying when standing still, i think its impossible, whereas the GT gives you something to work with. If you feel old you buy something old fashioned, that how they sold Volvo's. But if you still have it in you, and you want to stay that way, you have to think that way, young at heart. I'm still working on my GT 3.2 and your info on Performance Mods is great to read, now all i have to do is give it some extra grunt and i'll feel even younger  Thanks for the Tips.

  10. The Tax is based on the origional purchase price of the car in the country of manfacture,so if it was built in Japan that is the basis of the price when new and it will cost you heaps. Most probably they wont give you an import permit anyway so forget it. I went through all this 8 years ago when i wanted to bring my RX7 twin turbo from Australia and gave up.

  11. I think this is a new shop that hasn't opened yet or has just opened in recent weeks, i remember seeing the english sign which is unusual in Muk. There are a few good dentists here so when you come you can find them easily. One is near the Government hospital on the opposite side of the road, 2nd shop past the traffic lights.B)

  12. I've seen the liquor section at Tesco, but I don't know much about the selection.I can go to A store and buy A pint of barcardi rum with no problem.Good Luck

Go to 1 of the German Restaurants and ask where to get it, or the Irish Clock.

Well, I thought I could go to Thai Visa Isan forum for some help. Guess not.

I'm in Mukdahan and to get anything that is not Scotch whisky i slip over the bridge to Savannakhett - Laos where you can get almost anything you want in the way of grog and cigarettes. The saving on the cost pays for the visa fee.

  13. thanks ignis, moonriveroasis, little_muppet and the rest for your replies!

    i really apreciate it :)

im gonna wait for the 'new' PJS then.... gonna google for more info about it, cause if it takes another half year or so, im not gonna wait... so will have to look for exact month (and date if possible hehe :))

I have a 3.2lt PJS, GT. From new it averaged around 9.5kl/lt at cruiseing speeds of around 125 to 130ks. After 30,000kl the milage has increased suddenly to 10.5kl/lt at the same cruiseing speeds, No adjustments have been made in any area. My advice is to pay the few bucks extra and buy the 4x4 as its far safer in this country especially in the rainy season. I think for the money you get a lot more car and the resale will be much better in 4 or 5 years time :ermm:

  14. I've seen the liquor section at Tesco, but I don't know much about the selection.I can go to A store and buy A pint of barcardi rum with no problem.Good Luck

Go to 1 of the German Restaurants and ask where to get it, or the Irish Clock.

  15. I have a 2009 Pajero Sport and when I after 10,000 Km the rear end started to howl. I took it to the dealer and they discovered that there was no oil and agreed to replace it. Now at 25,000 it is starting to do it again , though it is faint and @ the 90 km hour rage only .The dealer claims that this common with all Pajero's . does anyone else have this problem ?

My 2010, 3.2lt 4x4 had the Differential whine from New. It comes in at 110ks and completely disappears at 125ks. The Mukdahan dealers who are the same company as in Khon Keane also said it was a common fault but agreed to change the Diff whenever it suited me so i also put in a complaint to Mitsu's customer service section in Bangkok. They contacted me by phone and it was agreed that they would first try to re-set up the diff which they did but no change at all in the whine. They then put in a much heavier diff oil to see if that would deaden the whine, but no difference. While this was being done i worked with the mechanics and double checked all the tolerances so i know the job was done. As the whine was still there a new diff was ordered and the complete unit put in a couple of weeks later, The new diff was manufactured in Thailand and actually reduced the whine by about 50% but it's still there so another new diff was ordered from Japan which 2 months later is still to arrive but i was assured that a couple of days ago that it is deffinately coming. My car has now done 35,000ks with no other problems at all.

  16. As you noted, the smaller book is for the Extended 5 year/150,000 KM Warranty.

The deal here is an additional service interval every other 5,000KM at a price of ~200-300 Baht a pop. The conditions are that so long as you don't miss more than 3 of these, you'll be eligible for the extended warranty. If you do miss 3 or more, your warranty reverts to the standard 100,000KM/3 years.

It's a separate book because it's still officially classified as a special "promotion" even though it appears to be rather perpetual in nature ;)

As for the A/C filter, IMHO it's recommended, and 500 Baht including fitting is actually a very fair price (I've been quoted up to 1,600 Baht for these things on previous Toyota's I've owned).

Very few cars come from the factory with these AC filters fitted, although most (all?) new cars have the provision - so you haven't missed out on anything. That said, it's all about keeping dust out of the air you breathe (and out of the AC vents/plumbing) - it's not about rats and small children - they wouldn't make it past the blower motor in one piece :D

Note that you can buy these filters online for DIY install for ~400 Baht or so.

I took my car in yesterday for this 35,000k inspection, which is all it really is, an inspection, which they did happily but the service manager gave me a new brochure on this and i think the rules have been changed and you now can do this in line with every 10,000k service, they wern't really interested in the small yellow book but i filled it in myself and had the service manager sign it anyway just to be sure. By the way this a FREE service, you are only charged if they find something wrong like a blown globe or low level on some type of fluid etc. My charge for the A/C filter was also 500 baht at the first service in Mukdahan and they have not changed it since.

  17. As noted, your insurance will not cover the car once it leaves Thailand. Your finance company also holds the tabien rot (which it will not relinquish until paid out and is required to get out and back into TH), and the copy they supply you with notes them as having a lien over the vehicle.

It would take both the finance company and your wife's approval to make it doable, and I have to say that as a foreigner, first finance, so early into the finance term, and no international insurance, the chances of them allowing the vehicle to leave the country will be very close to nil.

In any case, you'll need to be asking the question of the finance company.

This is correct. At Mukdahan Friendship Bridge you will be refused by both Immigration and Customs unless you have paperwork from the Finance company granting permission to take the car across and this is not easy to get. I believe that this has become stricter here due to Thai's taking their cars over to the Casino and putting them in Hock so to speak, looseing the money and leaving the car behind. Then the finance companies have to reclaim the car and bring it back. When i bought my car 10 months ago the Rep of the finance company told me that there was no problem in taking the car over but that all changed when i went to the bridge. I have tried all sorts of negotiations with them and it came down to firstly paying a 1 month installment and providing the exact date of departure and return so they could provide paperwork for the Bridge, and this was a special exemption. I only want to go over to play golf and return at any time i wish, but they won't consider that at all. So as there is nothing in my finance contract at all about this i have been looking for the law that enables them to impose this blockade. The head of Mukdahan Immigration, Col. Pisit, thinks there is nothing that can be done, and he is very strict on this rule, but i havn't given up yet.:annoyed:

  18. I had the pleasure of enjoying a wonderful afternoon at Don and Daengs restaurant last sunday. Location, outlook, food, service was excellant. My two friends and I had a very enjoyable time there and will be back there in the next couple of weeks with the wives. All the previous posts with pictures included really do describe this restaurant and B & B perfectly.

Thanks Don and Daeng from Carl, Peter and Dick
