  1. Thai Police flagged my wife down for driving slow in the fast lane, it was outside the city so it only cost 100 baht if I remember correctly.

So it is possible to get ticketed for that.

She'll be calling all the drivers zipping by her idiots. I'd like to mention that Hey! if you didn't drive slow in the fast line maybe there wouldn't be so many idiots on the road. But I just keep quiet, don't want to get her mad you know. I'd rather get the finger from a passing farang then get the dragon lady pissed.

They would have pulled her over for driving in the right lane, it doesn't matter what speed you are doing, 60 kph or 120 kph. The law is you must drive in the left lane unless you are overtaking another vehicle. This is a good way for the H P to get a bit extra in the can. I fitted a set of very bright DAY LIGHTS about a year ago and have found that 90% of the right hand lane hoggers now move over as i approach behind them without any other high beam flashing or anything else. they certainly work in my opinion.
  2. But is it Lamb? Judging by the size of the cut and joint I would say it was hogget. A lamb is a young sheep between the ages of 3-6 months of age when killed. A hogget is a young sheep aged between say 8 months and one year. A sheep between 1 year and two years old is called a two tooth. Thereafter, sheep when killed are called mutton. From seeing the size of the so called "lambs" meat on sale in Thailand I would say they are hoggets or two tooths. Lamb from NZ is extremely tender but lacks the meaty flavour of older stock. "Lamb" is used as a marketing tool to sell more older sheep meat. But then, if it tastes good who cares?

Dave you have got that a little wrong. Lamb is up to 1 year old, Hogget is over 1 year and Mutton is old Sheep and are also called Weathers in Oz. The older sheep often have a much stronger taste but can be a bit tough, the art is in the cooking. Sheep farmers in Oz can cook and old Leg of Mutton and have it as tender as Lamb. I'm sure what N'Joy are serving would be NZ or Oz Lamb from Makro and as i have eaten other dishes there i'm sure it would be good. She is a Very Good Cook and her Bloke is an Aussie.
  3. Thanks. Will order today. Anyone near Thong Lo will get a few beers if they can drop by an show me the install. Otherwise, I will curse you all when my engine blows up wink.png

As you would know if you have been reading back through some info this racechip will most likely come with wrong setting and you will have to change to suit. A number was posted for a guy name Gerald selling a speedkit 0844502920 will fit for you it said he was in pattaya.

Thats right, he is the origional guy who developed Racechip and then because of some business problems brought out Speedkit and he is in Pattaya and will fit the unit in a couple of minutes for you. As Transam says, to disconnect either unit it is the same ,just unplug and remove, very simple. The advantage of the Speedkit with the Remote control in my opinion is that you can turn the extra 30% of power On or Off when you need it. During highway cruising you dont need it so turn it off and get slightly better fuel consumpion and when you are on a single lane road and want to be passing car after car just hit the remote button to increase the power and pass the traffic faster and safer.
  4. Banks don't lend on cars to my knowledge but some banks have Finance Companies tied to them for car loans and there are many other finance companies that you can get quotes from as to their interest rates and choose the best available. But the easiest finance to get is usually through the dealer and sometimes they are negotiable. When i bought my Palero 2 yr ago they started at 2.6% and i eventually got it at 1.6% via the dealer through Krungsri Auto, they would have an office in Ubon i Think. I know they have one in Sakon Nakon, Check their web site.

  5. No, You should be given a LOG BOOK by the dealer and you must fill it in for every trip that you make. If you are pulled up and the log is not filled in you can be Fined. There is a rule also that the car cannot be driven after 6 pm at night but if the log is filled in you should be OK.. I drove my car on Red Plates into other Provinces and was pull up many times and the log book was checked and i was always told to go, no problem even when on my own and i had not filled in the log completely as it is in Thai Language only and even when i refered to older pages to try and get it right i never could but i always signed the page anyway. Usually if they see that you are trying to do things correctly you have no problems, in the North-East anyway.

  6. SPEEDKIT with 4 setting Remote Control which can be purchased direct from the Owner of the company in Pattaya and fitted by him in 5 minutes. If you want his phone number pm me. Check out the website for more info. I have a 2010 PJS 3.2 Lt and the chip has worked perfectly, no problem with engine warning lights or anything like you read about with other chips and you can turn it on or off whenever you need by the remote. Done 30,000k's with it now.

Any problems at the service center - as in voids of warranty?

I have had the car serviced three times now and they have not even noticed the unit connected as i placed it up at the front of the engine bay near the windscreen washer refill bottle so as it is in a cooler place, gets more airflow. I keep the remote control in my pocket and when they go for the test drive i simply hit the OFF button on the remote so they have only normal engine power just in case they might notice the extra power if it was left on. When my car is being serviced i stay with the mechanics at all times just to make sure that nothing is missed or forgotten during the service and check everything like suspension bushes etc myself and also make sure that they DO grease the unijoints on both shafts which is something that they never do until i tell them. For complete safety as regards the warranty it is advisable to disconnect the unit. If they did see it and knew what it was there would be a problem if there was a warranty claim on the Engine, Gearbox and probably the drive train. I have never had any Engine Light Problems like you read about with Racechip on this forum.
  7. Sorry Sezzo, In Mukdahan they are far worse than Ubon and this includes the Car Drivers as well. I have had the opinion for years that Mukdahan has the worst drivers in Thailand, you only have to watch their driving license test, it's like watching the Keystone Cops or Laurel and Hardy, one big laugh.

  9. I have been with Navakij - (www.navakiji.co.th) for my last 3 trucks, seem pretty efficient, but there again have never claimed for anything!. There are many others, perhaps visit a broker to see which is best.

I was with them for 6 years with my old Sportsrider, when i bought my new Pajero they only offered me 10% No Claim as they say the policy is on the car not the driver so you start again with a new car. I told them to stick it and went to AXA. You will also get a reduction if you use a Named Driver on your policy, this is also a good reason why other persons cannot drive your car.
  10. AXA Car Insurance, Check out the policy on their site. You can get NO Claim Bonus if you have paperwork to prove it even from your home country, up tp 50%. Also you get Free Car Hire and Accommodation if involved in an accident away from your home area. I think it is the best policy available in Thailand.

  11. My Yellow book was done at Mukdahan Tessaban 2 years ago. The officer there sent me to immigration to obtain a letter which verified my passport number and visa etc. I took this back to Tessaban and the book was done. The only slight problem was at immigration as the Blue book shows my residence as a Building, Not a House. We explained to the immigration officer that a building can be a house but they would have none of that so the letter refered to a building. Fortunately the very nice lady in charge of this at Tessaban was amused that immigration didn't understand that the word Building covers many things including a house and the yellow book was done. It's the same old story, every office has their own interpretation of what is required to do anything in Thailand, you just have to go along with them and sort out what you can to achieve your objective always staying polite and agreeable, once you spit the dummy your've had it and get nowhere fast from then on. Good Luck.

  12. For a yellow book you need a letter from Immigration to present at Tessaban confirming your visa etc, this verify's your passport and the blue book that shows that you reside there. What has the marriage certificate got to do with it, it doesn't matter if you are married or not it's about the house being yours or that you live in this house. The yellow book can show you as the Owner of the House ( not the land ) or that you Reside in this house, thats it, but it is Immigration that confirms your status. Hope this is of help.

  13. Consider this mate; she may well be messing with your mind because she doesn't want you jaunting off alone with buddies in case you find a nice new bit of fluff somewhere. Its not dangerous driving alone in Thailand, just go and enjoy yourself mate.

I agree mate, I done 500,000 kls here over the last 12 years and never a problem. In fact if i am pulled over by police for whatever reason it is always more of a problem if i have a Thai person in the car. The police will yak yak to them and intimidate them to try and get a hand out, but when i'm on my own, No problem at all as i don't speak Thai and 90% of the time i'm told to go after they inspect my Licence. Go play golf as i do anywhere in Thailand and enjoy the freedom.

  14. I just bought the 2012 quartz brown 4WD PJS. But I was wondering is there any pajero sport dakar in thailand? because when I ask about dakar version to the seller, they told me that mine is the top version. and also where I can buy the honey comb grill and other accessories for PJS in bangkok?

Have a look at R styleracing shops on the net. They have a good range of extras including the Metal grill with Day lights incorporated, this looks great and protects the intercooler from being damaged by stones.
  15. Yes you must get a car passport and depending where you cross the border the rules may be different. To be sure of no problems take all the info on the car to prove ownership etc as in Mukdahan they dont just accept the car passport the first time you take the car out of Thailand, they check everything before they enter the car on the computer, after the first trip you then only need the car passport. Don't forget to take out insurance at the Lao side of the border and place the sticker on the windscreen to avoid being stopped by Lao police. I've never heard of any free visa for over 65 yo, but i will be going over in the next week and i will check on this at the Lao Visa office on the bridge at Savannakhett. I hope you are right as i'm 65 in a few months but i really doubt it. Drive carefully.

  16. There has never been a Farang Bar in Mukdahan or not what i call a bar anyway. As Memock said you have The Mukdahan Manor B&B with The Waterfront- Song Fung Khong Restaurant which has a great cocktail bar and the Largest Selection of Spirits and Cocktails in Mukdahan. www.mukdahan-manor.com There is also a Pub called The Picking Cowboy which is a couple of doors south of the Rivercity hotel. This has a western decore with a band playing old english rock & roll each night. A Few foreigners gather there most evenings and the Thai Owner speaks good english also. So thats the choices on offer in Mukdahan but you wont find better food than Mukdahan Manor for 100's of K's.

  17. The PJS is a good vehicle and I am happy with my 2011 4WD. The engine power is OK, especially considering the engine size and vehicle weight. The only disadvantages are a little turbo lag occasionally and noise when you accelerate hard.

The 2WD is good value and probably a nicer drive in good conditions. The 4WD is good if you want to use it off road but also on slippery roads. Acceleration out of slow corners in the wet in 2WD can be slowed by the diesel torque spinning the inside wheel. In 4WD it just grips and goes. The 4WD system on the PJS is more expensive but better than most part time systems on pick ups. The PJS has a centre diff and can be used as a constant 4WD or All Wheel Drive on the normal roads like the Fortuner, Jeeps, Range Rovers and newer Land Rovers etc. The Mitsu Super Select system is unusual in that it allows 2WD as well as AWD. The shifter could be better positioned though.

I agree the tan interior is not the easiest to keep clean but it is hard to avoid in Thai cars. I read somewhere the new V6 petrol PJS may have a black interior. Anyone know if that is true.

I have seen the PJS GT with Black Interior and Black seatbelts. Also mine is a 2010 3.2 Lt GT 4x4 and there is no doubt that they hold their price far better than the 2 wheel drive version. It's hard to find a 2010 model for under 1 million baht and in this country with the Wet and Slippery roads i would always recommend the 4x4 for extra safety and if you fit Michelin Cross Terraine Tyres which are made in Poland to the standard 17in wheels you won't believe the difference in the grip and are fantastic at high speed in the corners. They remind me of the old Michelin XAS radials of the early 70's which are still availably today, they were the first tyres that i raced on in 1971 and have a different tread pattern on the inside than the outside of the tyre. Also these cross terrains are very Quiet on the highway at all speeds and have a higher speed rateing than the origional Bridgestones.
  18. The pinned list of hotels in isaan seems to be 8 years old although it is linked to Agoda. There must be at least 10 times more hotels listed on the Agoda site for the area. I think it's about time that this list was upgraded to show what is currently available in each Province to give members the opportunity to choose from the many New Hotels that now available in all areas. How about it.

  19. OP should just put his foot down and make the choice himself. Trying to accommodate about 20 provinces is a little difficult.

Yep, I also think we had enough opinions and the poll has shown that KK is the place to host it.

Thank you all a lot for your great feedback and interest in this event!

Next is the location. I am not really familiar with KK and would need again your support. So please plug your favourite place so that I can have a talk with them. This place should feature:

    • Food
    • Drinks
    • Hotel nearby (or chose a hotel as party ground?)
    • Parking
    • able to accommodate around 100 people. Ideal would be a place that can be shrunk or extended depending on the number of people coming without making it over crowded or looking empty.

    Pleased to hear! B)

Well as it seems that this function is connected to Thaivisa i hope you set some ground rules as to a dress code etc as a large gathering of Foreigners creates a lot of interest and creating a good impression is imperative i believe. NO Shorts, Singlets and Thongs for example. A Quality Venu is a must with good food and the right Music. I'm 250k's from KK and don't know the city very well but isn't there a large Bar or Mini Brewery below the Pullman Hotel or something in that area which is central to quite a few hotels. The KK members are the best to put forward suggestions as they know the city. I hope it all comes together and a great evening is had by all.
  20. Hi Guys, my 2010 PJS or Montero Sport as it is known here in the Philippines is fit with stock Bridgestones and i'm inclined to replace them with Thai Michelins 17, prefer thai because I know they are super long lasting, Yoko's out of the question cause my experience with them is that they don't last as long as even the Bridgestones.

Can anyone point me out as to where and how much these would cost in Thailand? any english speaking dealers you can refer me to?

I'm in Manila and wouldn't mind shipping them over, they're hardly available over here, and I do travel to BKK occassionaly, many thanks in advance.

Recommended retail price from Michelin Thailand, 265/65 R17. The Latitude Cross Manufactured in Poland is 7,690 Baht, which i think is the best choice. Tha highway Tyre is 7,500 Baht. Have a look at Michilin THAILAND SITE.
  21. The main criteria should be the FOOD no matter where you have it, Booze is everywhere but decent food, meaning western food is hard to come by. How about a suggestion on Venue's that can cater for a large group of Foreigners. I don't fancy driving 100's of K's to eat sundried pork or something and it depends on how large the group would be. If in KK the Pullman could handle it. Give this some thought.
