    born in a country with the metric system.. but talking in feet and inchesfacepalm.gif

    They must be different sizes in different centres.. A foot is 12 inches. No way was the one at my local centre 12 inches wide
    This one was quite wide, but there's a video on YouTube some guy made of his gf getting her license in pattaya which looks narrower

I did it on an out of tune carby scooter, got to the infamous balance beam and cracked the throttle, the engine was surging and not smooth at all and i'm on the beam with legs kicked out the sides, wobbling about trying to stayed balanced. The front wheel dropped off about 1 meter short from the end into the weeds but i think they didn't see it and passed me.

    That was after i turned a corner at about walking pace cracked the throttle..nothing. then powered me into the fence.. worst bike ever. Owner of the bike is a motorbike mechanic, fixes other bikes immaculately but own bike is a POS.

    If your practicing, find some place where you have to stop and then ride 3-4 meters till you go onto the balance beam. Even try riding the edge of a gutter on the foot path after ascending from the road, just so you get the feeling of a suspension bump before the balanced ride.

  3. Slightly off topic, but can someone explain the difference between hydraulic fracking, and using explosives down the hole to fracture the rock structure and allow the oil to flow ?? Thanks.

    Using explosives down hole was a predecessor to modern fracking. It's still useful in some reservoirs, but the benefits are mostly very near the wellbore.

    In hydraulic fracturing, sand or another proppant is suspended in a gelled fluid and pumped into the well at high rates and pressures to create and propagate a fracture in the reservoir rock. When the well goes onto production, the proppant in the fracture holds the reservoir rock apart and provides a high permeability path for the reservoir fluids to move toward the wellbore. The length of the fracture can be in the 1000's of feet, depending on the reservoir and the amount of fluids and proppant pumped in.

    Using just the explosives, the penetration is measured in feet or 10's of feet, and the reservoir rock would typically just collapse back together with no flow channel to the wellbore, especially in a "softer" rock reservoir. That's very useful if the drilling process plugged up the permeability near the wellbore, but not much benefit in oil shales with very low permeability throughout the reservoir.

    Just to give you an idea, frac can be big, very big. I have once pumped 1.5 million lbs of proppant and back in the '70 they use to pump 5-7 million lbs jobs.

    Shale fracturing is slightly different from gelled hydraulic fracturing. Shale gas fracturing hardly use any chemicals, lots of water, high pump rate and low proppant concentrations for 12 of more hours per zone. Often 6-12 zones per well.

    Are they actually fracking anywhere in Thailand ?

    I understand your disappointment,

    From my own experience working for a multinational doing various start up projects things always go wrong and its never as smooth as you'd wish. For sure they use the same company management systems as used in other locations as well as expats with experience manufacturing their products but you also have issues locally such as training new hands and quality control of suppliers.

    unfortunately its not economically viable to start producing and send the first few hundred bikes to the scrappers until they get their product 100%.

    ..anyways... im seriously thinking about getting one of these bikes once there's a few more about. I recon it would be the perfect Bangkok blaster!

  5. It's Ducati. And it's a brand new bike. Some quality issues are to be expected.

    Even Honda had loads of issues on some of their new Thai made bikes.

    Great that you finally got your exchange bike. I also find that going there in person makes a huge difference to just calling on the phone. Even if you say the same things and otherwise just stand around. Better communication.

    Any idea how long it took Honda to straighten up operations in Thailand? Would be good to use as a bench mark for Ducati.

    Its unfortunate that this has happened but you cant expect a new manufacturing plant (not just Thailand but anywhere in the world) with a new model to be perfect right from the beginning. The price of being an early adapter of a new model is your going to be the guinea pig.

    I've been there before with a new release model Mercedes truck. Trouble shooting problems wasnt easy for the mechanics because the database for issues previously logged in the system was very limited.

    As stated by others previously, make sure your problems are properly logged with with Ducati, not just for your sake but also so they are aware about issues with QC in their operations.

  6. On a scale from 1 to 10.. Ten being leathers and 1 being a T-shirt..

    Probably a 4.5 And the revit a 6. I've never worn leathers, only felt in the shop.

    Maybe that's a bit harsh.. But its intended use is suburban speeds where I wanted to trade safety down a level for a little bit more comfort.

    The revit airwave feels a lot more sturdier where as the dainese feels like a bit of mesh in the shape of a jacket to hold the armor in place...lol. But that's what I wanted.

    I feel that if I were to low side the armor would save an elbow strike to the ground. The elbow and forearm areas are adequately constructed, as is the shoulder areas. Front and back are only mesh and not as strong.

    Combined with Kevlar jeans, gloves and boots and full face, I've still got a lot on.

  7. Thought id bump this thread along with a small review of a Jacket i just bought and wore today for a narcissistic 220km ride around bangkok.

    Dainese Air flux textile jacket.

    Very happy with this jacket today. It was a stinking hot day but the jacket performed extreemly well. Flowed a ton of air compaired to my revit airwave jacket. Its got the usual armour in the shoulders, elbow and forearm and the ability to take a back protector too. Its only got two pockets in the front, velcro tabs on wrist, waist and neck for adjustment and the armour is velcroed in place

    let me just add that this isnt a jacket to go riding silly in. But in my opinion, for general commuting at suburban speeds it should hopefully be adequate. This is what i wss looking for in my next jacket...a super light jacket thst flows a ton of air with armour protection.

    honestly i dont know if you could find a lighter jacket than this. Available in Black, black and black.

  8. Ducati monster 796, second hand with low k's for around 350k baht.

    That's yesterdays / this mornings choice for me. Last week it was cb650f. Week before it was an ER6N, BMW F800R, Kawa z800.. Ducati scrambler in there somewhere as well.

    Or just bite the bullet with a new 821 monster.

    As you can see I'm in the same predicament.

    Mate of mine had similar prob with a Honda on the track. Loose bolt, oil out all over the tyre and down he went at 160kmh.

    thats nothing....

    Bloke down our ways got 2 loose bolts and went down at 180 kmph......

    Come on, my story was only 20km/h less than your story.. Its gotta be worth something [emoji12]
  10. I got my oil done at about 750km. At apHonda in BKK. Just rock up and join the que. Oil and new filter, chain retention and check over the bike cost 560baht.

    Cheap as chips and good to get a look over. Personally I though it better to get closer to the 1000k mark so parts got a chance to wear in and not only on the engine but other areas before they check over the bike and do any adjusting.

    Coincidentally that was 750km of training wheels for me, messing up gear changes, dragging the clutch unintentionally and generally being abusive (from a learner riders perspective)

    The gearbox loosens up and the bike generally feels a easier to ride after 1000km.

    I wouldn't sweat on the N problem too much.
