  1. it's beyond me why AFL isn't a bigger game worldwide !

the foundations are there for it to be bigger, with countries like Ireland, the U.K. set, your friends from across the Tasman, France, Italy, the Safas, even the Yanks if persuaded out of all their protective clobber.

interesting to see Richard Branson at the Dogs vs Crows game last night, do you think he is interested in buying a franchise ? then again would you guys want any kind of alien input in your national sport to spoil it ?

anyway great weekend of footie, can't wait for the next installment.

  2. depending on what kind of tree it is and how big, offer Somchai a 1000 baht to stop the burning and tell him you can sell it for firewood at a profit. you might just get the left and the right of his brain confused enough thinking he maybe loosing out on a good thing.

if that fails just pray to the gods and hope for a shift of wind and heavy rain overnight.

  4. Is one day that big of an issue for you?

I usually go in abut a week early, just incase there are any complications to deal with.

I would never go in on the last day available.

It is not a perfect system.

I have been given reporting dates that fall on holidays when the immigration office is not even open.

It pays to check in advance and plan ahead.

no one day isn't an issue for me and as stated earlier in the thread the only issue i had was that i had made a prior arrangement to meet up with someone.

also if i were here on a longer stay this time around i would have made different arrangements about visas, but seeing as i'm only here on a 3 month extended holiday seeing family and catching up with friends it ain't that big a deal. so i decided to just do a couple of border hops across to Cambodia and back.

  5. ^ many apologies folks !

my only defense being this cruddy calendar that was given to me by my brother in law, a Mercedes Benz one too !

it has the 31st of May up in the top left hand corner of the calendar instead of down near the bottom next to the 30th. i guess the way the thing has been designed and layed out it would have messed up the format in which they print the thing. ie you would have 6 columns instead of 5 across, if you get my gist.

plus the fact that you tend to lose track of time/days out here and i never was any good at remembering that rhyme about how many days there are in each month.

    sorry. wai.gif

anyway while we are on the subject, has it ever happened to anyone before, the being short changed of days i mean on your visa ?

  6. my question is, has this ever happened to any of you and what did or would you do about it ?

    scenario

last night took my passport out to check and make sure what day my 30 day visa runs out. as i always do i checked the stamp, then proceeded to fill out all the details ( saves time instead of doing it at the actual border ) something was bugging me about the dates though, so i decided to check on the calendar and sure enough after checking and then double checking the stamps only added up to a total of 29 days. the 13th of May until the 11th of June, right ?

the thing is, this has happened to me before some 10 or so years back on the Trat border, where i ended up having a bit of a heated discussion with a border official trying to show him that his maths didn't add up. only to be saved by his superior officer who came out from his office to see what all the commotion was about and then reprimanded the junior in a very loss of face kind of way.

so now i am in two minds as to what to do this time around. this visa was issued on the Aran/Poipet Cambodian border. they are a stony faced bunch of so and so's out that way at the best of times and having been here a few years now and learnt it's not a particular wise thing to do in making government employees look a tad silly in their own back yard i'm not sure i want to go down that route. but then again i am one of those people that like like to act on principal and if i know something is wrong i will stick to my guns. besides i don't particularly want to pay a 500 baht overstay fine for a mistake that is not my own doing and plus i have made a prior engagement to meet up with a friend in BKK after waiting a very long time to actually see this person i do not want to appear rude by cancelling.

what to do then, what says you ?

  7. o.k. who said they wanted rain ? rolleyes.gif

and for those of you knew to the LOS when i say rain, i mean rain. it's been absolutely chucking it down now in BKK for about the last hour !

  8. learn simple arithmetic or buy a cash register.

25 + 25 baht and the change from a 100 baht note ain't exactly rocket science, is it ?

if you turn your meter light on that means you can't pick and choose which fare you want to take and if you take the fare at least have the knowledge of where the customer wants to go. don't expect the customer to tell you which turn to take and how to get their and if you do, at least listen to what is being said to you ( in Thai, i might add ).

  9. o.k. first off, i used to and still want to do this thing independently.

what i mean is that i am going to take one of the casino buses with Mrs TF from Bang na big C early in the morning and will probably stay a few days in the no mans land area.

i heard a while back that on return to Thailand you now get a 30 day visa, instead of 2 weeks, is this true ?

also you now have to stay at least one night in Cambodia before you return.

how much does it now cost for a Cambodian visa, i think it was in the region of about 800 - 1000 baht ( 20 dollars )

am i right in thinking that i still need a passport photo for the Cambodian part of the process ?

any other info would be most appreciated.

    cheers TF.

  10. saw them in BKK the day after i got married back in 2003, great gig ! thumbsup.gif

You must be up for parole soon mate! biggrin.png

in just under 5 weeks time, after 4 long years away.

PM me if your up for a beer. wai.gif

Serving hard labour until early June....you still around then I hope?

just about and smokes, i hardly call supporting that rabble hard labour. 24/7 365 makes you a lifer in solitary with no perks in comparison ! tongue.png

  11. the one thing that puts me off about a lot of these pubs is the apparently self proclaimed " locals " who hog the bar area and then get all shirty when they get shouldered out the way after asking to be excused in front of their bit on the side.

fark me ! anyone would think some of these establishments were private members bars and probably the main reason why i choose to stick with how the natural inhabitants of this country do things to have a good time.

rather than be associated with a load of ex pat old farts with their fingers shoved so far up their own <deleted> ( especially the ones who like to comment on live sporting events, but clearly have no idea what they are talking especially when it comes to the rules and regulations of such a sport )

there are always exceptions though. biggrin.png

  12. can someone tell me, for the love of god, why were the European team wearing St Andrews cross Blue and White tops in the afternoon ?

i know the event is being played at Gleneagles in Scotland, but this is a European team and can you imagine the outcry especially from the Celtic nations, if say the event was being played at the Belfry England and everyone had to wear Red and White St Georges cross tops for example.

  13. in all my years of festival going, my she sure pulled one heck of a crowd and what a set to boot.

now some may say those that know me that i'm a bit bit of snob when it comes to who should get the opportunity to play at such events. the likes of Robbie Williams would have got a bottle of pish hurled at him the year he was on the bill, if i'd been there.

but, i along with maybe a few other hundred thousands of revelers that do these things probably recognize where respect is the order of the day for artists when they turn out for such events.

Shirley Bassey being another that springs to mind, as well the headliners that earn the right for such a privilege.not forgetting all the other new and diverse acts that make this festival the biggest and most respected throughout the world.

if you don't believe me just take a look at the people within the crowds and the flags from all over that come to take in this unique gathering year after year.

and if you ever get the chance to go, it's a must.

put it on your bucket list smile.png

  14. A very expensive bite. Maybe?

    jb1

indeed, apparently a Norwegian bookie has just had to fork out just over the equivalent of 5 grand after a punter laid a bet of about 35 quid on Suarez to bite someone this world cup at odds of something like 174/1, so one radio station reported today in the U.K.
