Thanks guys, I will not be able to able to get the Non-O on my next two month trip. I could however get one in Loas either before or after my trip. I do have proof of funds so that would not be an issue.
A visa service might work but I do not know of any around here, I'll have to ask around. I have always done it the hard way before
The Thai Elite membership more or less makes it so I will not have to visit Loas each year for the next 20 years. This is a huge plus for me as I went to university here and I pretty much live here with family. I want to be able to come here when needed.
I'm trying to find any down side to the 20 year membership program other than money. I'm more or less trading money for time here and no other disadvantage that I can see. I just want to makie sure I'm not missing something. As far as I understand it all I will need to do is leave once a year and do my 90 day reports. I almost never stay more than 90 days at a time so this should not be an issue.
Thanks again guys.

Okay, thank you for the help ubonjoe.
Is there any disadvantage (other than the fee) for the 20 year tourist visa over the Non-O? I want to just be able to come and visit my family when I'm able, not when the immigration needs me to do more paper work.
Thanks.

@ubonjoe
It was issued here in Thailand. Took about 45 days sadly. A window I might not be able to do when I return.
I will be traveling so trying at an embassy somewhere will not be an option either.
Thanks

Instead of coming in on a tourist visa exemption since you will be out of the country why not apply for a new Non-O before you re-enter ?
I had the understanding that I could only do this 2 weeks before my other one expired. Is that not true? Can I start the process now, 3 months in advance?

I am married to my Thai wife and we have children. I have been in Thailand for 12 years and have some experience with visas.
However my one year multi entry Non-O visa will end about a week before I return to Thailand next February. I am in Thailand now but will leave in December for 2 months.
Is there any way to extent this that early before I leave? Should I try to return on a 15 day tourist visa and just redo the whole process for the Non-O. It took me over a month last time.
Are their better options out there? Honestly I have been looking at the 20 year tourist visa for 1,000,000 Baht as a way to not have to deal with immigration issues yearly as I travel often. Is there any real down side to this?
Any suggestions welcomed, thanks in advance.

Well, well ,well......first declaring these items as they say in Thailand----- FOR WHAT???? As other members have posted there is no date stamped on the gold on when you have bought it. Even though 40 Baht of gold is alot and you plan on coming back to Thailand anyways, so why ask such a stupid question that at any internet cafe you can find out the answer in 5 minutes?? Is the idea to impress the members here that you own 40 Baht of gold? As for keeping records ect... again the stupid questions keep coming. May be you are bored, who knows?? As for getting a safety box at a bank, yes it is very hard to get unless you have a alot of money in the bank. Also there are many rules and regulations that govern these boxes. As for worrying about the way the banks are around the world and the fact it might get stolen when you are away. All i can say is WOW. I would suggest to elevate the level of your thinking. Go to an internet cafe and study....study...study. If you need to find a safety box in Bangkok, I would suggest this company which is Swiss run and very good. http://www.safedepositboxbangkok.com/ Take care.....
lol, pretty everyone else in this thread was helpful.
im going to guess you will not be around long.

It is my wife. she has 10 rings 5 bracelets and 3 or 4 necklaces. she would look pretty silly having it all on at once.
-
If you will return to Thailand and don't actually need it put it in a safety deposit box.
we did think about that, but it is nice to have it with us. esp with all the banks around the world on edge.
-
thanks for your help guys, i will look this stuff over.
since we plan to bring the stuff back we might not even bring it.
we just wanted to keep it from getting stolen while away.

Well, with the gold do we value it at what we paid for it 8 years ago or what we could sell it for now?
Sadly we did not keep records.

Hello, I and my wife are thinking about brining in about 40 Baht (weight) worth of gold into the USA.
I understand that we need to report cash if it is over $10,000 (per person or per family?) but what about gold? We will also be bringing a significant amount of cash, USD and Thai Baht.
What worries me the most is that there seems to be different rules for families than indivediuals and I can not find them anywhere. Also I can not find anything about jewelry.
I will be traveling with my son so it will be a total of three people. We would like to carry as much as we are leggally able to carry with out filing any reports.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

I posted that you were not correct in OP - you will also require wife ID card and home register copies just about anywhere these days and also good to have a current note from her asking for the visa to be issued (although not normally asked). She should sign and date the copies to help prove relationship is current.
Okay, I will add this to my list.
Also to the others telling me to go to Loas when I have to be Yangon, well, that is a bit silly (unless it can't be done in Yangon)

I will be in Myanmar and this is not to renew. I have a tourist visa now.
I guess can you please tell me if I am correct about the info in the OP? I can not find info about this anywhere.
A single entry is fine. I only need it to renew my drivers liecence and make a second bank account.
Thanks.

I assume it can be done, and will it only take 2 days?
What I need to bring is marrage certificate, copy of plane ticket back to thailand, money, passport photos, copy of the house book thing.
Anything else? Bank book or anything? I have the 400k Baht.
Thanks.

I e-mailed them asking if a photo copy of plane tickets to the USA would work and they sent back "The Embassy recommends against making any travel plans before applicants have a visa."
They would not even tell me yes or no...
-
They specifically told me not to buy airline tickets until after we had the visa, however doing exactly what they told me to not do seems logical at this point. Also I have repeatedly told them, in person, in writing and in e-mail that I wish to return to the USA and everything has been rejected. I guess I will just try sending a letter every day explaining all of this again until they give up or just let us get the visa.
I had assumed at first this is all they wanted but because we have been rejected so many times I was wondering if I was just missing something. They should really make this policy more clear and explain it in writing somewhere on their website or when someone requests information about it.
Thanks.

We have done everything, even the interview and all. The only thing now holding this up is me proving that I will return to my home in the USA in 6 months or less. I have already proven that I have an address in the USA and that I have a job waiting for me.
Honestly the only thing I can think of doing is just going to the USA however it would be nice if we could travel as a family.
I even talked to a lawyer about this and he has no idea other than tell me to ask for more information. But as you know the US Government will not tell me what they want. Again what they told me....
"The law places evidentiary burden upon petitioners requesting visas for alien relatives to demonstrate their principal residence will return to the US within 6 months. If you need advice or assistance producing evidence please consider engaging private counsel.
Immigrant Visa Unit
If I can't get this sorted my father is going to go ask our congress women. Really we have no idea how to prove this and we can not find a guideline about this anywhere.
Thank you.

Sorry that I was not clear.
I am living in Thailand with my Thai wife. I am an American. I need to send "proof" to the USA embassy that I want to go back to the USA in the next 6 months to get the visa for my Thai wife. However they are not even giving me hints as to what they are looking for. My lawyer thought they would want a letter from my employer showing that once I went back to the USA I would have the job. However the embassy ejected this and is still asking that I prove that I plan to return to the USA in the next 6 months.
I really have no idea what to do as I can not find any guidelines.
Thanks.
-
Has anyone else had to do this? It is the only thing keeping my wife from getting the visa.
Thanks.

"Petitioner please document your efforts to return to your principal domicile to the US within 6 months"
Hi, I sent them a letter from the people who will be hiring me, it showed that I was hared and had a job waiting. They rejected this. I contacted the embassy and asked for more information and they said..
"The law places evidentiary burden upon petitioners requesting visas for alien relatives to demonstrate their principal residence will return to the US within 6 months. If you need advice or assistance producing evidence please consider engaging private counsel.

So since the lawyer said the work letter would do the trick and it did not what should i do?
I find this all silly as I just want to go to the USA with my wife and that is why I am doing this. What "proof" are they after?
Thanks.

I will be in the city anyway but that will be plan C. If I can't get either visa I will come back in on 15 days and do that. That is what a currently have.
Thanks.

the marrage visa is only if they refuse me a tourist visa. i hope to not have to get it, but if i must, whatever they give me will ahve to do.
thanks

Hi all,
I'm going up to Vientian to visit a friend and get a visa. My goal will to get a 2 month tourist visa as that is about how long I will be here for before going back to my home country for a while. But on my old passport I had a red stamp that said no more tourist visas and that was from Vientian. So I'm going to assume it will work as I have a virgin passport but if not I will just get a Marragie visa.
I have the following... Marriage Certificate, Wifes’s birth certificate, Wife’s house registration ,Wife’s identity card and a short letter from her saying that she is my wife with current contact information.
However assuming I fail on the tourist visa how long will it take me to get the marrage visa? Is it the next day service just like the tourist visa?
Also does this plan seem sound or am i just missing something?
Thanks.
Capital gains tax question

I know in Thailand capital gains other than a few listed things like stocks, and land are taxed at the normal income rate.
However I have heard that if a commodity was bought or sold outside of thailand, or held outside of Thailand for more than a year no taxes need to be paid.
Does any one know where I should look for a source on this? I'm try to sort up my wifes taxes for the year.
Thank you.
