  1. I notice the house of the parents of the first person to state Bangkok would see a wave of bombings burned yesterday.

"House of Jakrapop's parents damaged in fire

The house of the parents of fugitive former PM's Office minister Jakrapop Penkair was damaged in a fire Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the two-storey house of Jamnong Penkair and Natthawan Penkair on Soi Phaholyothin 56 in Bangkok's Saimai district at 1 pm.

Fire fighters took about half an hour to control the blaze which engulfed the second floor.

Officials suspected the fire was caused by short circuit."

Note: I read somewhere that the fire started in the 'Buddha room' on the second floor. Such a room would have lights on in the night and sometimes candles lit.

Probe still underway for fire at UDD leader Jakrapop´s parent´s house

BANGKOK, 30 September 2010 (NNT) — Sai Mai police are still waiting for reports from the forensic department relative to the cause of fire that burnt down the house of the parents of one of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) leaders, Jakrapob Penkair, two days ago.

Authorities said the damage to the house was estimated at one million baht. Forensic experts suspected that the fire was caused by either a short circuit or arson. Police said more evidence was needed before they could reach conclusion on the cause of the fire.

UDD Core Leader Jakrapob Penkair said in his announcement that the 44-year-old house was built by his hard-earned money.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the fire. He did not know whether the house was torched or burnt down by accident.

Jakrapop, a former minister during the Thaksin Shinawatara's administration, thanked the red-shirt for their moral support and warned them to be on alert at all times, saying something like this could happen to anyone fighting for democracy.

No think too much. It is just an accident. Nothing more.

(accidental combustion of bomb making materials, perhaps?)

  2. Not only Farang get hit with ATM fee. We Thais do too.

Yes dear, of course you do

    - but tell me, how many times a week do you get hit for an extra B150.00 in Thai ATM fees, for withdrawing your income from your overseas bank account (which it is paid into) and have to pay that on top of the 2% fee that your overseas bank already charges, in order for them to pay the inter-bank fees that Thai banks charge to overseas banks when foreigners use their foreign card in Thai ATMs?

And ... if the inter-province fee has been dropped to 5 Baht, why was I charged 20 Baht just 20 minutes ago?

I think it starts NEXT year.

  3. Not sure how it was phrased in the original Thai, but in English a statement would be like 'between now and end of the year' which is more-or-less starting tomorrow.

The attacks of the last few months are indeed a reason to keep the SoE. Unfortunately till now only in a few cases have the terrorists been identified and/or apprehended. Sorry to say, till now only red-leaning individuals.

As for intelligence, even if they had, I don't think it wise to tell. With investigations of possible attacks the less said in public the better. Don't tell me the UK government does differently?

"The attacks of the last few months are indeed a reason to keep the SoE." The group that benefits, did it.

  4. Is greed killing Thai-Saudi ties? No i would say the Thai police killed it 20 years ago. Wait till the Saudi stop visa for Mecca then well see more bombs in BKK.

The Saudi dare not do that. Religion should not be involved.

But close down the BKK office will to the Southern Thai a favour. Because it is only 600km to KL to apply for visa, while it is 1,000 km to BKK to do the same.

  5. Hi All.

Recent Bomb attacks in Bangkok should come as no surprise, During Black Songkran 2009 the BBC interviewed Red shirt leader And Thaksin spokesman Jackrobob Penkair and he told the BBC live .....If we dont get what we want now we will take the fight underground and bombs will be going off all around Bangkok and Thailand, HE added ....We have the people in position they are just awaiting the signal to go.

Why the Government and Police are so surprised is beyond me.

    phupaman

Funnily enough the journos seem to have forgotten that one. There were also similar statements by others

So it MUST be the work of Thaksin. Case close.

  6. So sad that these poor girls get caught up in the insanity of the political gamesmanship.

And the guys setting the bombs probably think think they are making face doing this.

They are as faceless as a brick, and as brainless.

Political gamesmanship? Jumping to conclusion as soon as the news is release? Could be the work of a jealous boyfriend/hunsand that see his girlfriend/wife appears in the police office clip.

Don't hold your breath for any of your alternate scenarios to prove true.

Jealousy usual is fixed with a gun, knife or hands,

bombs are much less the stuff of personal feuds over emotions.

Bombs are business here. Big and bad business.

Dep PM Suthep siad this morning at Swannaphumi airport that this rama 3 bombing it is not link to politics. This proof that you have jump to conclusion.

    . . . and not just here.

Irish terror attack a 'strong possibility'

Sorry, I know it isn't Thai related but this needs to be put in perspective.

A Thai friend and Red Shirt supporter was very surprised when I told him of the troubles in UK which went on for some 30 years, essentially a civil war in Northern Ireland. I did recommend this was not a good path to go down. Just to point out he does not advocate violence.

I thought the IRA cease to exit some 20 years ago; No?

  8. Unfortunately there isn't going to be any election - regardless of what Abhisit says in the USA, unless the ruling classes can guarantee that the Dems will win. Which they cant do at the moment.

Imagine the payback if the reds and their supporters were elected into power? More worrying for the army is that their budget, which has doubled since 2006 would probably be trimmed.

Abhisit will make all the right noises for sure, but at some point in the run up to a proposed election there will be unexplained bombings or some other incident which causes the elections to be postponed indefinitely.

    Scoring political points in USA.
