  1. Just a quick question.

When a salt chlorinator makes chlorine and then the spent chlorine reverts back to salt, the only chlorine in the pool should be free chlorine?

So is the need to test for total & free chlorine is inappropriate?. True or false

  2. Hi guys

building has just started and we are thinking ahead to the finer details!

We will have 3 doors that I would like to be fully opening - something like these that open almost

the full widthe of the room

    post-34071-1221965533_thumb.jpg

The problem is with the screens. I would like the to be able to open fully (ie the with of the doors)

wich is almost the width of the room. But wifey wants sliding.

Is it possible to make a screen that slides (50%) for ease of use - but that can also fold back (100%)?

The other thought I had was a sliding 'roller' screen, like a roller blind but vertical

with some aide to rigidity and tracks so it doesn't collapse

    . . . . any suggestions?

    Hi.

I had problems with fully opening sub-standard fly screens, until Euro PVC Windows Pattaya, organized a Bangkok company to fit mine, absolutely fantastic quality. the company might have branches throughout Thailand.

The base is like a caterpillar track.

  3. I look for a supplier for high quality steel drills, not the rubbish from HomePro.

Any adresses/phone numbers or website to contact?

I used to get my drill bits from Home Mart, totally useless, then I needed to drill stainless steel, the only place that I could find that sold quality drill bits was True Value.

The Drill bit I purchased was cobalt, and it went through the stainless steel like going through butter. now all my drill bits and tools come from True value.

I use the shop in Pattaya, but the have shops in other locations :o:D

  4. I had the drive way and more concreted (to avoid perimeter wall to slip away).

I was told the concrete would turn ugly black within one year and I think it begins to do so (rain etc?)

Is there a solution to this and what would the cost be per sqm?

I thought there might be some special oil absorbing paint, but could that be used outside?

I saw some nice finishing of drive ways in some star pattern and heard the cost would be 350B sqm, and I wonder if that resist the monsoon here.

My path to the rear of the house is also black due to the constant rain; it rarely dries out due to the concrete being very very porous, a totally crap mix ,builders skimping on cement.

I first used pool acid (hydrochloric) this leaves you with a sloppy mess to hose off, and you need gloves goggles and wellingtons.

Then I reverted to pool chlorine 10% liquid, this costs around 360 baht for 25lt, the dilution I used was 5lt water to 1lt chlorine in a garden watering can, then watered the liquid all over the path, at this dilution no risk to the skin.

Then you can sit back and watch all the black just fade away, with the occasional scrub using a deck brush on the obstinate parts, and you don’t have to hose off as it soon dies off.

This I will have to continue to do until I take drastic measures and replace the path.

  5. Thought it might be a good idea to have this thread so that if we have a problem with our cars we can find owners with similar models who might be able to give advice on locating parts or getting repairs done for the right price. :o

As for me ....... Nissan Sunny B14

    2008 Nissan Navara 2.5 Le 4/wd Auto

What a dream machine after my 10 year old Toyota Tiger.

I am on the point of buying a Navara, same type, 4wd, double cabin. It had a great feeling at the test ride. Itwas rainig heavily and I did several successful emergency stops.

Really a pity they have only these dull colors and not then vivid ones like in Europe. I think I will go for black (great look) or white (cooler). I attach a pic of a red one.

Do you have any idea how many kilometers it gives per liter?

I am still in doubt re the cover on the back. Do you leave it on permanently? Is it a Nissan product, or did you buy in a carshop?

    Thanks a lot.

collected my new Navara from the Nissan on Sukumvit Pattaya

The dealer threw in the usual freebies, back liner, plastic wheel arch protection (front & rear), side steps, window visors, window tint film (choice of colour), underseal, car cover, mats, road tax, number plates, free comprehensive insurance. Plus 5 % discount on the list price

Any accessories to be fitted the girl from Nissan took me to the local accessory shop that main dealers use for window Tint, Fancy mirrors in car DVD etc etc

    .

The top I leave on all the time as it’s electronic and if the top was left off the motors would be in full view.

kilometers it gives per liter? I just fill up.

For any info on Navara go to this website, you can even download the original service manual.

  7. I notice that quite a few people have problems finding the dog shelter in Pattaya; with all the development in Jomtien I assume was transferred to near NaJomtien.

Yesterday I went to the dog shelter to collect our newest family, a little bitch pup, I turned down the three huge Rottweiler’s a member of staff first showed me, the animal shelter is run by Tony’s . And is located near NaJomtien.

    Here are the directions

If you travel on Sukumvit past the Ambassador Hotel towards Sattahip, at the sign for Silverlake Vineyard turn left (note this is the turning before Nong Nooch tropical gardens)

From here the animal shelter is well signposted.

Carry on down this road past the vineyard until you meet the main 331 road, turn right, carry on down this road for around 3 klm at the sign for the animal shelter turn left , from here this is just a track and is a very rough, but don’t let this put you off,

The majority of the dogs here are collected from the soi’s and are not wormed, vaccinated or given the snip, needless to say fleas in abundance, my little pup was crawling in them.

So after you select your dog first stop is a good vets for blood tests etc etc.

Remember to take a reasonable size cage to transport your new family member home; these can be purchased on Pattaya 3rd Road at numerous shops at a good price.

Enjoy your new family member. :o:D

  8. Yesterday once again the clouds went black and the thunder and lightning started, on its third strike it decided to select a tree four meters from our perimeter wall, the strike then carried along the ground from the tree up the wall, anything screwed to the wall near the rebar was blown off or ruined including starter and relay for bore hole pump, pool salt chlorinator panel and various sockets.

Next day we had a lightning conductor fitted to the house.

We were lucky; consider fitting a lightning conductor to your property.

One thing eerie about this is the lighting went up the wall exactly where one hour before I had just buried our dog.

  9. next week, I am going to renew my Retirement Visa for the first Time

    All I need is

    1. go to my Bank and get the Statement, that 800.000 Bath are 3 months on my account

    2. a Letter from my Apartmenthouse, that I live there

    3. a passport-sized Foto

    4. a Copy of my Passport and of the recent Visa

    5. filling out the right Form

    6. applying for a multible Entry

    7. bringing enough Money to pay all Fees

    did I forget anything?

Glancing through your past post can I assume that you are in Pattaya.

Every renewal that I have done at Jomtien immigration I have had all the correct photo copies, but have always been told to get one more.

Every time we are waiting for our ninety day stamp, we always watch desk 8 (retirement renewal) and every person is told to go out and get one more photo copy, it’ just one of those things.

So be prepared to not have all the required photo copies. :o:D

  10. Here a a few I took on Saturday 1.pm at NaJomtien, the sun was most unusual with a continuous ring that lasted around two hours.. I only Have a Nikon coolpix 3200, but I do my best :o

  11. Certain VOIP services offer free calls to UK landlines 24/7 :D

For those of us 'not in the know' could you give us the info on which VOIP services offer free calls to UK landlines--I've been wasting precious cash for too long. Thanks.

Don’t know about the rest of the world, but if I phone my daughters’ mobile in the UK from Thailand she gets charged for receiving the call :o

  12. If you looked at Pattaya Beach today July 1, you must have noticed there was not a single installed umbrella. Apparently they were on strike, protesting some new rule the city is trying to impose on them. It may last awhile, depending who will decide they lost enough revenues...

So much for Pattaya as a "beach resort." Was Jomptien beach also affected? How about Koh Larn?

Jomtien beach was operating as usual yesterday, although not very many punters.

  13. I read on this forum some time ago about putting chlorine in your water tank to clean it out and get rid of any algae build up. I didn’t take much notice at the time but now think it may be a good idea to try this.

We have one of those 1000lt blue plastic water tanks fed by local government water. The water though filtered does not seem to be treated with anything and I thought I would try the chlorine treatment.

A friend gave me about a kilo of chlorine used for swimming pools, would some of this thrown in the tank get rid of algae build up and apart from slight taste and smell would the water be ok to use as normal.

How much should I use? I don’t want to put too in much and have problems with unusable water. Also can I just throw the powder in the tank or should I put it in a small bag and hang it in there.

Any advice from those that have done this most welcome.

    Daffy. :o

Follow this link for the information you require, THEY HAVE A pdf FOR DOWNLOAD, BUT DON'T DRINK THE CHLORINATED WATER!! BAD HEALTH RISKS.

  14. If your thinking of buying a Nissan Navara Read the following reviews, although not to sure if the engines on the UK models are from the same source as Thai built models.

There are 29 reviews nearly all bad, just a few below

    Full reviews here http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews100692.html

Good Points: d22 king cab it has none.

Bad Points: 57k engine broken 19/06/2008 4th conrod through engine side estimated cost £6k + fitting and vat timing chain changed at 42k £2.5k to repair dec 2007. Oil filter housing changed at 45k early jan £600.00 to fix 2008 reguler service every 6k nissan no help pay for survey and we may help.

General comments: You should have been in the fast lane at 60 mile an hour when the con rod went harrowing doesn't discribe the full effect catastrophic engine failure is the technical word for it. Very disapointed with the nissan aftersale attitude no help at all. Thanks Nissan you are no help, been with you for 12 years 4 vehicals good bye cannot afford you any more as your customer after care is very poor the main point you miss is no more customers no more sales we will not come back and bad news is bad news for your company what worries me is on this site quite a lot of us isnt there maybe its already to late. Hope so!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

not being mechanical, com rod, timing chain, engine on my Nissan Navara are knackered. Need i say more? Are Nissan and there outlets unaware they have a problem with the Navara engine? Rep told me its good motoring for four years, i would not want to see a bad one!

Engine oil leaks from my Nissan Navara, intercooler cracked, injectors had to be replaced £800, crank sensor failed, electric window switch failed, engine noise in cab horrendous, engine rough and agricultural, compared to previous Isuzu powered ford ranger (Mazda), whole headlight out to change side light bulb!, dash lights too dim at night no adjustment I fitted larger bulbs in the end, steering stops groan on full lock, CD radio rattles in dash, mine fitted with 17" rims no real good o ...

My Nissan Navara is 19 months old and 29,000 miles on the clock, the engine blew whilst it was idling. Broken camshaft, broken timing gear teeth, bent valves, hammered pistons, etc.. Having major rows with Nissan warranty claims dept to get it sorted. Dealer is very helpful but Nissan themselves are painfully slow to respond. Vehicle is still off the road after a fortnight.

  15. Every evening about 7pm the verandha at my home is invaded by toads (mostly) plus the occassional frog. I don't have anything against these animals but they are a real pest as they leave their droppings everywhere. I've tried catching them and throwing them over the garden wall but they just seem to come back probably through the garden drains.

Anybody have any solutions to solve this problem?

Go live in a condo 30th floor might help :o
