MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Britain will fight its corner in the damaging dispute between U.S. planemaker Boeing and Canadian rival Bombardier, its trade minister said on Sunday, adding that "protectionism always ends badly".

 

The U.S. Department of Commerce last week imposed a 220-percent duty on Bombardier's CSeries jets, whose wings are made at a plant in Belfast, following a complaint by Boeing, which accuses Canada of unfairly subsidising Bombardier.

 

The trade minister, Liam Fox, told the Conservative Party's annual conference that the two companies must find a resolution.

I'd say that Boeing doesn't need resolution - 220% duty on Bombardier's CSeries jets!

Why would the EU get involved in a dispute between the US and a Canadian company?

So it is ok for the US Government to openly subsidise their Industry but if a Competitor has Government investment in them the US cries foul. Seems the Pot calling the Kettle black. The US may end up scoring an own Goal on this One

Because it's a big issue which could cause the loss of up to ten thousand jobs in a region of the EU which the EU has made a special interest area?
