Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha

The government plans to kick off its Bt300-billion “Thai Niyom Yangyuen” sustainability project during the premier’s trip to Nakhon Pathom today.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said yesterday that he would give details about the project during his visit to Bangkok’s western neighbouring province.

“I don’t want to call it the opening ceremony. Rather, I will meet with the people,” Prayut said.

He added that after this, members of the project’s different committees from the relevant ministries would start visiting the project areas. The project’s name can be literally translated as “sustainable Thai way”.

The PM said that a Thai Niyom website would be available to collect opinions from citizens on what they want the government to do. “This allows us to know about people’s needs. We want to know how bad the economy is in people’s views. We also will listen to people’s suffering regarding their daily lives,” Prayut said.

“The goal is to solve the problems correctly. The big data obtained will be used as a database for state agencies to analyse and solve the problems,” he added.

In the first stage of the project, the goal is to increase incomes for poorer people so they earn between Bt100,000 and Bt300,000 a year, according to the prime minister.

The project focuses on three areas – state welfare benefits for poor people, improving the country’s competitiveness, and agriculture, with each area requiring a budget of Bt100 billion, according to Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda,. He said farmers would be encouraged to grow crops that have market demand.

Anupong said local authorities have been prepared for the start of the project, which would be implemented based on local residents’ needs, in a transparent way.

He said that the government was not concerned that the project might get a poor response from local residents. “We are confident that the project will continue well,” Anupong said. “We have no worries because we are not doing anything bad. It’s bad people who have to be worried,” he said.

This is great for Thailand, just shows the Government is serious about initiating programs to help the poor. The TV nayers are always wrong.

Khun Prayut Chan O Cha has also fast tracked many projects to revive the economy as well as introduced the recent program to give free land to the poor and the farmers.

Serious question, those different jackets Prayuth is wearing each day, who pays for them?  Are taxpayers paying for them?  Do they get tossed in the trash after wearing them once?  He seems to have a different color every time.

Some jackets are kept at government house which get dry cleaned and used when required, also some are provided by the organization for which the PM is speaking on behalf of .. so if it was a seminar on OTOP, One Tambon One Product, then the jacket would be given before the speech.

So none get tossed in the trash.

Side by side today together, obstacles mean nothing,

The lessons we learn are new everyday,

We have to build our hearts' dream together so it's resilient". LALALALA Urrghhh

This "scheme" involving the dispatching of teams to every province, district, village ready to dispense cash sounds like for vote-buying.

Do you think :) Can't be, I'm sure populist policies were banned ?? Or was that just for genuine political parties !!

300 billion... wow.. not a little bit of money. Good chance for corruption. Only thing this has going on the rice scam is that at least this should target all poor people not just farmers.

Of course I am not a fan of this program at all as it sounds like the popular policies of Thaksin who were nothing more then vote buying just like this one.

At least real vote buying was done with money from the political parties, this is done with money from the Thai people.

Best not to sow (sew?) discord by asking particularly thorny questions like these. I'm sure that everything is "done according to accepted practices", as long as the sleeves have been suitably lengthened to hide any wrist-watches during photo-ops.

The photo above was clearly pre-watch scandal.

Like ChidlomDweller, I've been interested in the sustainability principles underlying Gen. Prayuth's jacket selection. I looked up Google images and tried to count them all a couple of years ago but I gave up at 100 with no end in sight. Thank you Steven for the answer. Perhaps you could give us a link to this information? Ordoes this intimate knowledge come from your job as Prayuth's valet?

Shoe shine boys know more than you think!

Plus the fact that the 'teams' are almost certainly the excess military men who will now get extra allowances for their troubles. 5 times as many generals as China, must find them work!
