You've focused on the major point, ie that inappropriate deference is now being widely noticed.

Actually having seen the video nothing too unusual was going on here. There's no reason why the police had to be impolite and I don't think they were being servile, just Thai good manners.

But a new wind is blowing...

Lets hope it keeps blowing and this is not a 1 off.. Though I still need to see what comes of this. IMHO they did a lot of investigating far too much if they were just going to let the guy go. But of course I could be totally wrong here and he could as so often is the case get off without any problems as he is rich.

We have the PM banging on about the law applying equally to all, yet we have a feudal heirarchical system where you have to wye in different positions to different people, etc. How can the law ever be equal to all with this backwards system? It simply can’t.

Within a few weeks of arriving in Thailand, many years ago, I gave up doing 'wais' altogether  - when I realised that the wai was a deeply anti-egalitarian gesture used to demarcate a person's standing in the 'social pecking order'.  If everyone got and gave the same 'level' of wai - fine, I'd be all for it; but as it is - you'll never catch me doing a wai to anyone - I'll have nothing to do with this pathetically 'graded' and discriminatory gesture of low-so/hi-so 'respect'.

The appaling pornographic statistics of traffic accidents didnt come through as severe to them. Whats the big hooha over the death of another animal?

Animals being killed don't have a choice...people driving vehicles do.

Indeed, I never do a wai unless a Thai graaaaps first, and even then just with one hand at about the height of my nuts. They can keep their beloved sakdina.

I always say that there is actually no police force in Thailand - only criminals running around dressed in police uniforms.

If I had to reform ONE thing in Thailand as a start to improving this mediaeval society - I would get rid of the entire 'royal' Thai police force and  start up a police force that basically did everything the OPPOSITE way from how the 'royal' Thai police do things today ....

Disagree. In a lot of ways, their hands are tied by the judiciary who are as bad, if not worse.

No, if I had to reform ONE thing first, it would be rid the army, navy and air force of the 3000 odd Generals, Admirals, and Air Marshalls.

By about 2940. Leave 20 of each in command sounds about right.

Parasites, the lot of 'em.

Reading the comments, I can see who are single people and who are married to Thai wives.

Try not waiing to your Thai relatives and see how much s*x your wife will be happy to give,  Just saying!

I am still hoping that this particular Hi-So gets some jail time. If so could Watch man get some face losing, as well with all his dead friends watches.

Geezer

This greeting is the showing of respect to someone who is higher in society (Sakdi-na) it still exists today, no matter what crime the hiso commit they will never receive the correct justice their crimes deserve.

Add a big brown envelope to the police charity fund and a few wai's and Bobs your uncle all is good.

Now I know why their is no smiles in Thailand;.

If any (more) evidence was needed demonstrating just how deeply in the garbage bin the RTP is then look no further than the photos and videos here.

It is a truly ghastly organization that needs to be dismantled and built back up from nothing

And I might add that the RTP is behaving in the way seen in the op photos under the current government. A fact which shouldn't be lost on anybody.
