3 injured in LPG cylinder explosion in Samut Prakan

 

 

Three people, including a girl, were injured when a LPG gas cylinder exploded inside a townhouse in Samut Prakan province on Monday (April 23).

 

Quoting eyewitness accounts, police said that the houseowner in Poomjai Nives housing estate ordered a LPG gas cylinder to be delivered to the house to replace an old one which has run out of gas.

 

But as the delivery man was testing whether the new gas cylinder works properly or not after it was connected with the gas stove, the cylinder exploded injuring the delivery man who suffered burns.  Two children who were in the house at the time were also injured.

If this was an actual LPG cylinder exploding the damage would have been far greater. Looks more like leaking gas was ignited and exploded whilst being tested.

That supports your idea.

If the cylinder exploded it would be other injuries besides burning.

Would be seriously injured or dead.

Also in the picture I see a small green gas cylinder which does not look like "exploded".

 

There was a recent thread about safety of those gas cylinders.

I and others assured that there is nothing to worry about except leaks from the burners, tubes or valves

I tried to understand an article in Thai and it really sounds like a massive leak and gas explosion while changing the "cylinder head" (?).

Forgot to close the valve before unmounting????

The only thing I can think of right now is:

If there was 15 litres/kg of fuel, that would be enough - given sufficient air - to replicate (say) a 150-200kg bomb. Don't think it exploded. There's actually a very narrow window for gas explosions. It's usually either too lean, or too rich, a mix. There's only a narrow window when a spark will take the house down.
