webfact
Hunt says parliament will only approve Brexit deal consistent with vote British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt speaks outside the United Nations Security Council prior to presiding over a meeting of the Council at U.N. headquarters in New York City, New York, U.S., August 23, 2018. REUTERS/Lucas Jackson UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Britain's foreign minister, Jeremy Hunt, said on Thursday he believed the British parliament would only approve a Brexit deal that was consistent with the "letter and spirit" of the 2016 referendum result in favour of leaving the European Union. Speaking at the United Nations, Hunt said Britain was hopeful, but "cautiously hopeful, rather than wildly hopeful", about reaching an agreement with the EU on the terms of Brexit, as it was in the interests of both sides. "I think Parliament will only accept a deal that is consistent with the letter and spirit of the referendum result - the decision by the British people to leave the European Union," he told reporters. Chomper Higgot
He needs to be a bit less general in his use of the term ‘British People’. He night then better understand he’s in no position to guess what Parliament will do.
alanrchase
As I remember the referendum had no box to tick on what sort of Brexit people were voting for.

Considering this was enacted into law as an "advisory" referendum he ought to clearly spell out exactly what he thinks the "letter and spirit" means in context. Another useless Tory <deleted>. Another useless Tory <deleted>. Why on earth are some posters so reliant on it being (in their minds) - an "advisory" referendum? ? Have you not noticed that MPs (who mostly support remain) have no intention of pursuing this line of argument? And for very good reason, as they know they are reliant on being re-elected by their constituents - and only the most ardent remain advocates would be at all impressed if their MPs pretended that it was only ever intended as an 'advisory referendum'! Please don't only quote only one sentence of my post i.e. - "Why on earth are some posters so reliant on it being (in their minds) - an "advisory" referendum?" I'm sure you know that quoting only the one sentence results in it being taken entirely out of context.....
