Even more so to have a young child afflicted by autism. Life is hard enough already for both the girl and her concerned, loving parents.

True, but if you do not take a stand, things do not get better, just harder.  Her parents are gems.

Please remember that education is a profit oriented business in Thailand and Directors are in charge of the business end, may have no teaching qualifications or experience whatsoever.

 

Any moves a Director makes are designed to minimize financial or reputational loss, nothing to do with dispensing fair treatment or improving educational outcomes.

I taught a week long English class at a Thai middle school once.  I had about 25 teachers in the class.  At the end of the week we all pitched in to have a pizza luncheon together.  The 'director' of the school, who did not attend the seminar, had a table set up for herself about 20 feet away from the main table where she wolf down her pizza, alone. 

It was one of the most pathetic sights I've seen while living in Thailand.  And it speaks volumes to what is wrong with the Thai educational system.

12-13 year olds will not get any fines.

If we knew the mechanics of it and the family, a 'go fund me page' in the girls name would be a good thing............Brave Parents standing up for her, drawing a line in the dirt that money doesn't fix everything..............all the kids should be taken to Juvenile Court and taught a life lesson.  Maybe a Military Boot Camp for a few weeks would teach them a lesson they would never forget.

I am the father of an extremely disabled autistic 8 year old boy. He does not speak (although he can to  a limited extent with some encouragement; despite our best efforts he is not yet properly toilet trained (big problem as you could imagine). He is at a special Thai government school - not perfect but pretty good (and  I have seen some pretty horrifying news about autism schools in Australia with its very advanced social services system. We have actually received great help from his carer, Pee Nid, who lives across   the road and has been looking after him when his mum and I can't for a very modest financial contribution. She deserves a 100 times what we actually pay her. He has a private teacher who comes around a few times a week and her patience and perserverance are equally amazing. His school suffers from all the nonsense and hierarchy that afflict any school in Thailand but he gets great love and attention in spite of that. Relatives, neighbours and friends do their best with Joseph and he is by no means easy

 

It depresses me to see this news. I'm not excusing the behaviour of the kids but it does happen everywhere. Kids can be cruel. And good teachers will teach them to be kind.

 

Joseph has many good relationships with bit children and adults. I would hate for him to get adults like this principal. He should be sacked. 

 

But I do have to say there is a lot to be liked in the experiences I have had with Thai social services - even when we got his passport photo. It took two hours . Tne staff wheedled and seduced him in every way they could and we finally got the regulation photo. It was lovely,

 

So its not all doom and gloom. But there is work to be done. Very interested to hear from other parents if you, re out there. That's something that we haven't really succeeded in.

Cheap <deleted>. But then, such a derisory amount offered in settlement of similar issues isn't unusual in LoS.

The mother said that people had offered her family 30-50,000 baht to drop charges.

 

in that case then the mother should of taken the money then.
