Daily News reported that 7.67 million vehicles are on their way back to Bangkok after the Songkran holidays.

All roads and main arteries into Bangkok are expected to be flooded with traffic with lanes opened up on the other side to ease the flow.

The return to the capital was only a trickle yesterday but it was expected to pick up pace this morning and continue into tomorrow, said the Highway Department.

Some 15 million people are expected to be on the move many in public transport.

Hundreds of thousands more are expected to return by rail with 15 special services added to routes.

More trains will be laid on from Sisaket, Sila At (Uttaradit), Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani.

raise a toast to Thailand for going along with China that in no time at all has built a high speed network at home in record time that rivals the US interstate system of roads and airports ONLY... but in China includes high speed trains.... today. with all of the above easily linked to fires and drought risks. yes? everyone knows these numbers?

14 grams of carbon emissions per passenger kilometer... trains.

285 grams for commercial aircraft.

which we cannot see or smell at all, is so powerful we measure it in parts per million, accounts for all of the oxygen we breath and all of our food and even, perhaps, for why we left the trees.  for that last one I cite page 287 of Oliver Morton’s Eating The Sun.

get those trains done. air travel’s days are very limited.

Couldn't care less about the CO2 hype, but trains are cool so yes please. However I don't think their capacity would help much in Songkran, 1/3 of the population is probably on the move. Unless they find out a way to velcro Thais to the top while going 250km/h or tailgate train after another. Who needs brakes anyway.
