A Chinese national, who was reportedly ready to take over a Bangkok restaurant from a Thai owner, was found brutally murdered in the restaurant, located in the Town-in-Town area in Wang Thonglang district.

The Thai owner, who only identified himself as Wiroj, said he had learned about 51-year-old Chen Yi Hai’s murder from a female employee, who found the body in the restaurant.

Wiroj said all seven members of his staff are foreign nationals, and quoted the unnamed employee as saying that Chen was partying with them the night before.

Initial reports cited signs of violent struggle in the room, where the victim’s body was found with several stab wounds and signs of bludgeoning.

Police found Bt19,000 in cash at the site of the murder and quoted Chen’s relatives as saying that he was ready to take the restaurant over from Wiroj.

Chen had reportedly started visiting the premises and even staying there since August 20.

The relatives also said that the victim had Bt300,000 in cash on him, which had been given to him by his son for taking over the restaurant.

Police said CCTV footage showed that seven staff members had left the restaurant at around 3am, before the murder was reported the following morning.

UPDATE:

Myanmar workers arrested for murder of Chinese businessman

By The Nation

Police have arrested four Myanmar workers suspected of taking part in the murder of a Chinese man at a Bangkok restaurant which he was about to take over from the Thai owner.

The four suspects were arrested in Pattaya Thursday night and were handed over to the Wang Thong Lang police station where they were detained for questioning.

Police declined to give information about the four suspects but three of them were identified by sources as Arti, Ah-xing and Jeyi.

The sources said the four were among seven Myanmar workers at the restaurant who took part in the killing of Chen Yi Hai at the restaurant in the Town-in-Town area in Wang Thong Lang district early Thursday.

Police said CCTV footage showed that seven staff members had left the restaurant at around 3am. The body of the victim was found later that morning.

Police found Bt19,000 in cash at the site of the murder and quoted Chen’s relatives as saying that he was ready to take the restaurant over from the Thai owner, identified only as Wiroj.

Chen had reportedly started visiting the premises and had staying there since August 20.

Police said the seven were angry after Chen reprimanded them for making noise while drinking.

Have you actually read the report? All the workers were from Myanmar. They were drinking and said they became angry when Chen reprimanded them for making a lot of noise.

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of a good racist conspiracy theory!

Immigration to follow up TMs and work permits

Seems the Myanmar people also pick up the bad habits of the Thais and having a short fuse. .... note to self : be careful who you drink with... even if it is for rapport building.

This is getting ridiculous. So the authorities do not intend to bring in the owner of the restaurant, a Thai, the person who probably masterminded all of this, and only bring in the Myanmar workers? This stuff plays out like a script every single time

YES

maybe the myanmar 2, already in custody

could of sneeked out of prison and done this

Wow, this pattern of crime always seems to play out in Thailand......Someone gets mysteriously murdered or raped and it usually an immigrant or immigrants that get caught....REALLY?

Why not? Considering that some immigrants come from honour cultures where violent retaliation is the norm for perceived threats to status, or where a dog eat dog mentality is also a more common social norm.

Well, bringing in the 7 guys seen on CCTV leaving the scene of the murder at 3am the night before is a good way to start right?

How do you know the authorities do not intend to make the owner a suspect?  And how do you know that he probably masterminded it?

What?  It's not "usually an immigrant" that gets caught, that does happen but probably no more frequently than Thais being involved in similar incidents.

Nooooo, the point is the Thai police always look to foreign nationals rather than a Thai citizen whenever there is a crime committed in LOS...don't you read the newspapers?

You obviously don't read the newspapers very closely as what you suggested cannot generally be substantiated in any reasonable way.
