The manner in which ‘some’ Thai’s can so clumsily and publicly put both 'feet in it' while urinating all over the combined face of common sense and political correctness never ceases to amaze me.

So foreign guests of members are automatically Covid free.?  Dumb as they come.

The stats definitely indicate the opposite.  Someone in the UK, US is 1,100 times more likely to have it.    And definitely more likely to ignore rules designed to limit the spread which is p

Perhaps you could post a link which provides data on how many foreign golfers in Thailand have tested positive for coronavirus.

Zero cases so far.

The restrictions in place have proven to be very successful.

You can’t be too careful with this pandemic, especially now we have the new highly contagious mutant UK and South African super strains.

Lucky you chose Thailand.

What did you think of PM Scooter telling all the foreigners to leave Australia? Foreigners that had paid tens of thousands of dollars to live and study in Australia. Natai Beach notes they closed the golf courses over there completely.

If I just paid over $100,000 USD for a membership, I'd kinda like them to keep it exclusive, especially with Covid.

There's a difference between exclusivity and the excellence of a golf course. The price tag of USD 100,000 for a membership may indicate there are other facilities available to members that are not publicly disclosed.

No golf course in Thailand is worth that much, having played world famous golf courses IMO Thai golf courses overrate themselves. They are quite good, but not that good.

I agree, one of my better decisions in life. Although it wasn't all luck, six month's research went into it.

Don't think my golfing friends in Australia were not bitching their heads off about being barred from their golf courses, some paying hefty annual subscriptions. And envious of me. It was a panic reaction from a one-size-fits-all health bureaucracy, executed while they stuffed up quarantine in Melbourne so badly everyone is still ducking for cover.

In Chiang Rai, the army Mae Kok course closed, Waterford Valley barred foreigners. The Old Airport course, Santiburi, Khan Mara and Happy City stayed open. AFAIK not a single COVID case occurred at any of the open golf courses, which just demonstrates a triumph of health dogma over facts and evidence.

That’s the spirit mate.
what were the other three countries you considered?

Sounds like you really wanted to leave Oz.
I chose to live here because I like it so much, I probably would have stayed living in Oz if Thailand didn’t exist.

Yes all the golfing oldies were spitting it, my parents included, and Sam Newman lost the plot completely.

Now we have the Australian Tennis Open stuff up. We should have just banned the foreigners and we could of had the first Aussie winner since 1976.

i note the headline of this thread is a complete wind up. I am sure the Thais know they can catch covid. Otherwise they would not care if infected foreigners showed up to play.

And stats from today indicate they are more likely to catch it from a foreigner than a fellow Thai.

Well, the golf course is banning all foreigners. If you look at the covid stats from today, most of the positive cases detected are indeed foreigners.
And this latest deadly outbreak is a result of these foreigners.

Said foreigners being almost entirely from Burma, and not being quarantined on entry. The opposite of the "US and UK" foreigners you referred to, who must go through quarantine and testing. I have my doubts that the migrant workers who are largely responsible for the recent spike in infections are busting down the gates to get into this golf course.

Further, the Jan 11, 2021 situation report from the MOPH seems to contradict your assessment:

There is a strong argument out there suggesting genetics as a factor.

Agreed, but you can’t be stupid either. Intelligent balance is required and these decisions do not show intelligence.

The lack of understanding and knee-jerk reaction is actually a concern.

Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. I had worked as a consultant in all of them, plus Thailand. Indonesia was out because it was even more corrupt than Thailand. Imagine a place where you have to pay your rent a year IN ADVANCE. Malaysia was out because it was Muslim, didn't like the food or women either. The Philippines because it is a violent society, I had security people all the time I worked there escorting me. That left Thailand, where I had already been gobsmacked by the grace, beauty and attitude of Thai women.

I could not have stayed in Australia, I would have been bored out of my skull just waiting to die. Here, I'm living.

What? Use emoticon together with sarcasm? But, that will totally make it lose it whole point. Good sarcasm is done to fool and mislead people. This members sarcasm really worked on you. I was just pointing that out.

“outrageously”

If I had of shown up at the golf course and saw this I would have shrugged my shoulders and accepted it is their club, they can do what they like. They have done it out of concern for the health of their members. The medical experts have been sending out the social distance/ stay home message for nearly a year now.

Some people, who would never have gone there anyway, will be “outraged” and play the race card.
For a privileged white male such as myself, from a country we invaded and took over from the original people, I would feel a but ridiculous playing the race card.

Or winding myself up into a frenzy over convincing myself it was anything else than a health measure. Especially considering that they shared their golf course with us before covid, and will again after.

If I had a friend who acted this way, I would give them a slap or two and tell them to harden up and stop carrying on like Karen.

Many people have died unnecessarily in the west because of this “but what about me” “I have rights, I don’t have to wear a mask” selfish types that won’t be told.

But we are all different.

Carry on.

Perhaps “esteemed health minister who is internationally recognized for his hard but highly successful approach to beat covid”

He gets flack on this site for asking a few farangs to wear a mask in a pandemic, meanwhile government representatives from around the world are queuing up at his office to thank him.

Harden up.

I probably would have shrugged my shoulders too, but that does not mean I would not remember their attitude later when they wanted everyone to come back.

The Romans invaded Gaul, the Normans invaded England, the Dutch invaded Indonesia. We invaded a country where the original people were just warring Stone Age tribes. Still at it, if you want to pay a visit to Wilcannia. The Japanese invaded China. How far back do you want the guilt trip to go?

In point of fact, Thailand has never been invaded or colonized. They are experts at political negotiation, the Japanese left them alone during World War II.

Accept your point about passing time, but when you were a young man they were not even allowed to vote. And we treated them terribly. And still do, but it is improving slowly thanks to my generation.
So unlike the Normans, it is still an issue today. Invasion Day on the 26th, I don’t understand why we can’t just change it to a date that suits everyone.
I am sure it will be changed in the near future with the younger generations who are less racist and more accepting than the oldies, as was shown during the pleb on gay marriage. We are getting there slowly.

The Thais did play WW2 well, used the Japs to stick it to the French and claim some extra land, then changed sides to the Allies and won the war.
After the war the Brits had their hand out for bloody compo, despite the fact that the Brits bombed Bangkok, but the Thais told them to stick it, and the Americans backed them up.

As the old saying goes “No flies on the Thais”

I do accept my generation is/was far more racist than current generations. Having said that, some of the racism was related to self-inflicted wounds.

Racism is a product of ignorance and poor education. I've seen it in America, South Africa, the UK, Timor  and Japan. And Australia, of course. I don't consider myself a privileged white male, but OTOH I don't see why I should be on the receiving end of it.

Neatly aided and abetted by Thais , corrupt as ever to enter  along with all the Thai whores bouncing over the  borders. Thankfully the army isn't  involved just  like they weren't  involved with the Rohygna and the bodies they found  down south.

This is consistent attitude for this course - first golfed there nearly 20 years ago with friends (farangs) - we liked the course and out of curiosity inquired about membership - we were told only Thai members allowed - that as the last time we played there - too many other good courses in Thailand that exist without dual pricing, etc.

Tomorrow's retraction:

So sorry for the confusion caused by our seemingly banning foreign golfers. This was a misunderstanding. We meant to say: Krungthepkreetha Association will not accept foreign migrant workers to play golf here.

Most of their clientele currently would be Thais. Let’s face it, there is blanket news coverage in Thailand regarding the covid situation especially in foreign countries, where people are still refusing to wear masks, people are protesting about wearing masks, the morgues are full, etc etc.

The local news also has shown foreigners partying together in Pattaya etc

The Thai population mostly haven’t resisted the measures put in place, such as mask wearing, so it is totally understandable why Thais would be wary of foreigners during this deadly pandemic.

Is it really worth it for the club to scare away their Thai members for a few foreigners?

In Australia we have similar rules for foreigners as do other countries. I remember PM Scooter Morrison a few months ago telling foreigners to get out of Australia. A bit more dramatic than not being allowed to play a game of golf.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-03/coronavirus-pm-tells-international-students-time-to-go-to-home/12119568

As coronavirus spreads, 'it's time to go home' Scott Morrison tells visitors and international students.

Additionally Thais are allowed to discriminate. Their country, they can do what they want. You are an uninvited guest here.

Thats not what you make it out to be. The pm was saying to foreigners to leave, also citizens to get home, because borders about to close.

Similar in Japan, I went to a club in Tokyo with my Japanese work colleague.

He knocked, girl opens door, panics and yells for the manager.

Manager tells us in fair English foreigners cannot come in because Japan is pure and clean, therefore foreigners cannot enter.

No loss, next evening he took me home to his family and his Japanese wife cooked up a storm, she spoke English and was very welcoming and enjoyed the opportunity to converse in English. 17 year old son uni. student was studying English and he also joined the Conversations and poured the beer and sake, occasionally sneaking a few sips when dad not looking.
