Most parents want teachers, students vaccinated before schools allowed to reopen

A survey/poll done by the Thai Public Health department showed that the majority of parents and guardians don't want their children to go back to school.

 

Many want to see teachers, students and educationalists vaccinated first. 

 

The start of term was supposed to be mid May. Was then put back to the start of June before, for most, it has been further delayed to the middle of this month.

 

Health department chief Dr Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai said the poll asked simply: "Do you agree with opening schools?"

 

40.5% said yes but 54.8% disagreed nationwide.

 

The figures when broken down into regions revealed that most people in the north east wanted their kids back in school - this may reflect less Covid-19 infection in that part of the country, notes Thaivisa. 

 

In the central region (excluding Bangkok) 33.1% of people agreed with going back, 62.1 didn't.

 

In the south it was 30.2% yes 65.9% no.

 

In the north the figures were 45.1% yes, 49.9% no.

 

But in Isaan 66.2% wanted their children to go back to school compared to 29.6% who wanted a delay. 

 

The reason was the same nationwide - fear of Covid spread, reported Channel 7.

 

For those who didn't agree with reopening an average of 15.3% mentioned that they wanted to see all students, teachers and people working at schools vaccinated first.

 

This rose to 17.11% in Bangkok where Covid cases have been very prevalent and just 9.28% in Isaan where it has not. 

 

Thai schools have been closed for the best part of two months already.

 

With many parents struggling to guide their children through online learning, the results of the poll can be seen in two lights:

 

The need to get children back in school for more effective learning but the continuing fear about the virus, notes Thaivisa.

Great.  So "experimental" vaccines should be mandated for use on children now?

I have wrote a long time already that teachers need to be vaccinated because they stand in front of a class with at least 25-50 kids. But who cares... As I wrote in the Netherlands teachers have to do a covid test 2/3 times a week, tests are available at school and free. 

But with a delaying and slow vaccination program here in Thailand it will take a very long time. there are already a whole list waiting now.  Prisoners, over sixties, people with underlying diseases, people in very affected areas, and more to come.. How about the army?? no infections there yet. But the schools need tot be open and the teachers  could have been vaccinated already in May. B

My daughter's teacher went to the local hospital to get vaccinated yesterday and was turned away as they had run out of vaccine's. Staff told her they don't know when they'll be getting anymore.

How many teachers died of "covid" in Thailand last year 2020? Were there really so many that every teacher absolutely has to be vaccinated before they can teach in front of students again? Are schoolchildren even capable of developing such a high viral load without symptoms that they could be a potential danger to anyone?

Instead of repeating the same prejudices over and over again for a long time, some research would certainly be in order. There are plenty of questions to be answered.

If 1 teacher has covid in front of the class what will happen you think?? What is more important.. a boxer, someone who hope that a tourist will visit its place? an Hi-So?? As I said make THailand first back to " normal" schools open, prisons safe, restaurants, shops and bars open and than focus on Tourism. Tourists don't come if they think country is NOT safe enough.  But some people don't understand

Foreign teachers are in no better position than retirees or anyone else.

 

The parents in Issarn want the students to go back because they can't afford to stay at home with them. Moreover, the education in school is not good but take those teachers and put them online and I would venture to say it's atrocious.

 

Finally the parents cannot afford a bunch of fancy gadgets for the students to play games with because that is what will happen not education.

 

Students should definitely not have vaccines at the same time it's ethically not right to require teachers to return to the classroom without being vaccinated.

Teachers and all ancillary staff (basically all adults on the premises) - Yes, I would expect them to be fully vaccinated as soon as possible. 

 

Children - No, I don’t expect that any children are vaccinated. Even in schools children present less risk when all adults around them are vaccinated. 

 

I would also expect that all adults / parents / carers of children who go to school are also vaccinated. 

 

 

The issue is as the ‘net spreads’ there is less control or monitoring of who is vaccinated.

 

If a parent is sending their child to school, it would be responsible of them to ensure they (the parent) are vaccinated as soon as possible.

 

(I care little of what the selfish anti-vaxers think)

They made research in Italy 2-3 months ago, they came to a conclusion that schools are not source of covid outbreaks.

In Germany, we know the same result: schools are safe, children are not significant carriers.
Nevertheless, the government acts against better knowledge and even recommends vaccinations from the age of 12.
