Thailand’s vaccine director apologises for ‘slow, inadequate’ vaccine rollout, promises to join COVAX

Thailand’s National Vaccine Institute (NVI) Director Nakorn Premsri offered an apology to the public on Wednesday for the slow and insufficient national COVID-19 vaccine rollout, saying mutations of the virus were unforeseen, while promising that the country will join the COVAX program to receive donated vaccines next year.

Motorcycling-Thai MotoGP round cancelled due to COVID-19

(Reuters) - Motorcycling's Thailand Grand Prix, scheduled to be held at the Chang International Circuit in October, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MotoGP said on Wednesday.

Tuition fee cuts for Thailand’s state and private university students

The Thai cabinet has decided to cut tuition fees at state universities by between 10% and 50% and by 5,000 baht per head for private universities to ease the financial burden on parents as the country’s COVID-19 pandemic worsens.

Almost 400 denied Phuket land entry under new rules

PHUKET: Almost 400 people attempting to enter Phuket by road yesterday (July 20) were refused entry for failing to satisfy the revised entry requirements that were announced on Sunday.

As Phuket COVID vaccination campaign stalls, medical workers to get third ‘booster jab’

PHUKET: About 7,000 medical workers on the island will start receiving their third vaccination injection as a ‘booster jab’ by the end of this week, Vachira Phuket Hospital Director Dr Chalermpong Sukontapol has confirmed.

Phuket Sandbox tourists reminded to have COVID insurance

PHUKET: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office has issued a reminder to any visitors under the Phuket Sandbox scheme to have the correct insurance policy in place which covers them in the event of a COVID-19 infection while on the island.

14.8 million COVID-19 vaccines administered in Thailand, 229 deaths

Two COVID-infected people on their way home for treatment killed in road accident

Two people were killed and four others injured in a road accident in Thailand’s central province of Suphan Buri yesterday (Wednesday), as they were heading for home to the northern province of Phayao for treatment for COVID-19 infections.

PHUKET: Lifeguards at Nai Harn Beach are urging all beachgoers to swim only between the red-yellow flags following a spate of foreigners needing rescue, with an Irishman rescued from rocks on Monday and a Polish man rescued just yesterday (July 21).

40 of Thailand’s leading CEOs have called on the government to get the COVID-19 pandemic under control, compensate people who have been adversely impacted by it, boost the economy and rehabilitate the country, while rejecting the idea of a “Wuhan” style lockdown, according to Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri.
