According to army sources, members of Myanmar's military were given doses of a Covid-19 vaccine imported from India without being informed that it had not yet been licenced.

According to the sources, the military's secret vaccination campaign, which used the Covaxin vaccine developed by Indian pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech, began in January and lasted three months.

According to some people who participated in the experiment, those who received the vaccination were not informed that it was still in the third phase of clinical trials at the time.

“They claimed they would vaccine us and then test our immunity two weeks later to see if it had improved.
So you could call it a test,” one cop who was part of the first round of test subjects explained.

After each of the two shots, the officer, who was stationed at a military hospital in Yangon's Mingaladon Township, told Myanmar Now that 15 soldiers, including himself, had blood extracted three times.

After the results from the first 15 participants were analysed, he added, the experiment was expanded to include more military people.

“I was under the impression that they were drawing blood from everyone.
However, we eventually discovered that it was only the two of us.
We even joked about being utilised as test subjects,” he continued.

“It irritates you, but you can't do anything about it since this is the army.”
