Low daily case totals once again, but high ‘Delta' readings for Cambodia spell trouble.

Recommended Posts

The official daily new COVID case total was again lower than provincial totals – and the discovery of additional 326 ‘Delta' variant cases – including over 100 in Phnom Penh – has put a shadow over the low daily results.

Cambodia reported 428 additional instances per day today, bringing the total number of COVID cases to 90,535 cases.

With 14,512 instances being imported, the total number of Community Cases is now 76,023.

Today, 117 imported cases were disclosed, as the number of imported cases continues to rise as a result of the Thai border reopening last week.

Despite low official national data, provincial and ‘Delta' instances continue to climb, and provinces – particularly the eight provinces bordering Thailand – are at the forefront of Cambodia's campaign against COVID.

The recent announcement that 326 additional ‘Delta' instances have been discovered in Cambodia, including over 100 cases in Phnom Penh, demonstrates that ‘Delta' is becoming more of a concern.

The provincial data continue to be a source of consternation, with individual provincial totals appearing to differ from the national totals released on a regular basis.

A simple addition of the province statistics yields a daily amount that is far greater than the official national total.
The province of Banteay Meanchey, in particular, is experiencing a COVID ‘surge,' with 119 cases reported today, prompting the province to proclaim a number of ‘Red Zones' yesterday.

In related news, Cambodia's Ministry of Health has urged provinces to continue getting vaccinated, despite concerns that the immunization program is faltering.

The announcement today of a new third ‘booster dosage' policy, which is set to start soon, will provide some reassurance and optimism that ‘normalcy' will return.

Cambodia also revealed 14 further deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in Cambodia to 1835.

Recoveries exceeded new cases Monday, with 572 fresh recoveries announced — a smaller margin than in recent weeks – bringing the total number of active cases to 1991.
