Despite a jump in new ‘Delta' cases reported today, Cambodia's daily national case totals remained low.

The official daily new COVID case total for today was 439, increasing the overall number of COVID cases to 93,055.

There are presently 77,903 Community Instances, with 15,152 cases being imported.

In comparison to its neighbors Vietnam and Thailand, Cambodia's daily new cases per million people ratio continues to demonstrate a remarkable drop, as shown in the graph below.

Today, 123 imported cases were announced, as the number of imported cases continues to rise as a result of the Thai border reopening on August 13th.

The number of ‘Delta' cases in Cambodia continues to rise, with 164 new instances recorded today, bringing the total number of ‘Delta' cases in Cambodia to 1916.

The worst-affected areas are Phnom Penh, which has over 600 ‘Delta' instances, and Banteay Meanchey, which has about 400.

Despite low official national figures, the provinces continue to report high daily case levels, with Banteay Meanchey reporting particularly high numbers.

However, because to the persistent lack of official daily case data from Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and many other provinces, determining the exact situation of COVID in Cambodia is challenging.

However, there was some positive news, as Prime Minister Hun Sen directed the Minister of Education to look into reopening schools in non-infectious areas.

Cambodia also revealed 11 new deaths, increasing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in Cambodia to 1,903.

New cases surpassed recoveries today, with 343 new recoveries announced, bringing the total number of current cases to 2,359 active cases.
