Today, COVID deaths in Cambodia surpassed 2,000 for the first time.

The official daily new COVID case total for today was 589, increasing the overall number of COVID cases to 97,524.

With 16,458 instances being imported, the total number of Community Cases is now 81,066.

Today, ‘Delta' exploded with a vengeance as Cambodia disclosed 676 new instances, bringing the total to nearly 3,500.

Individual case totals in provinces continue to be high, with Tboung Khmum, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey all reporting high figures.

Provincial data appeared to be higher than national daily totals once again.

Today, only the three provinces mentioned above have reported 300 new cases.

Unfortunately, the lack of official daily case data from Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and many other provinces makes assessing the true situation of COVID in Cambodia difficult.

Today, 148 imported cases were declared, as the number of imported cases continues to rise as a result of the Thai border reopening on August 13th.

Dy Rado, the deputy governor of Oddar Meanchey province, told Khmer Times yesterday that earlier there were only up to 10 cases of migrant workers in quarantine contracting Covid-19, but today there are about 40 cases every day.

Cambodia's daily instances, however, pale in comparison to those of its neighbors, Vietnam and Thailand:

With relation to Cambodia's preparedness and reaction to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, the World Health Organization in Cambodia has issued the following statement.

“The epidemic has entered a new phase in Cambodia, with declining case counts, high vaccine coverage, and a highly transmissible circulating variety threatening a concealed surge. As a result, the government has relaunched its approach with a more targeted, evidence-based strategy to reduce transmission, minimize social disturbances, and safeguard the public.

Cambodia also revealed 20 further deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in Cambodia to 2007.

New cases surpassed recoveries today, with 480 new recoveries revealed, bringing the total number of current cases to 3,015 active cases.
