Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
BANGKOK (NNT) - With Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine expected to be available at private hospitals next month, some people who have received other vaccines are now planning to get a Moderna jab as their booster. The Department of Disease Control has however warned, that they should talk to their doctor first, as the combination of this mRNA vaccine with other types has not been widely performed. The Department of Diseases Control’s Deputy Director General Dr Sophon Iamsirithavorn, has recommended people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 seek advice from a doctor first, if they are thinking of getting a Moderna Spikevax booster shot. Many people have already pre-ordered the mRNA vaccine from private hospitals, which have placed orders for Moderna’s vaccine via the Government Pharmaceutical Organization in the alternative vaccine campaign, where recipients pay for their jabs. Dr Sophon said people who have yet to receive any COVID-19 vaccine can immediately get their Moderna jabs in normal circumstances, however those who have already received jabs of vaccine from other manufacturers, should talk to their doctor first. He said vaccines should not be given in excessive quantities, adding that there is insufficient data to support the efficacy of getting a Moderna jab after two doses of inactivate vaccine, a scenario that many Thai people who have already received Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccines would face. There is however data supporting the notion that one dose of Pfizer’s Comirnaty vaccine, also an mRNA vaccine similar to Moderna, can elicit a good immune response and protection among those who have received two shots of an inactivated virus vaccine before. Dr Sophon also recommended that people who have received two shots of AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines not get a booster at this time. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-09-19 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 2 2

Popular Post alyx
OMG I keep being confused whether it is regarding the opening of the country or anything related to getting a vaccine. Can anyone explain to me the need to consult with a doctor prior to getting Modernà as it is stressed that there is insufficient data, from their own admission? That would make any decision by any physician kind of arbitrary, out of the blue, wouldn’t it ? Also, from what I have been reading Moderna has been considered more efficient than Pfizer. Popular Post ikke1959
Oh my God, a lot Thai people got a vaccine already, maybe only 1 shot Sinovac because there was never news when Moderna should arrive... Now suddenly it seems that they have to talk to the doctor first, before they can get their Moderna vaccine...Is it propaganda to get the Sinovac and Astra Zeneca from the Government first instead of this Moderna? 1 2

It's just drivel from the government which has brought you mix and match vaccines as a mainstay solution rather than do a proper job of it. 4 2
Popular Post clivebaxter
If the German chancellor was advised to take mixed vaccines AZ and Moderna then I think it's a pretty safe bet for the rest of us, what could a Dr here advise anyway. 6 1
Robin
Confused, and worried. I have had the 'standard' Thai vaccine of Sinovac + Astra Zeneca, but I see that this 'mixed dose is not accepted by UK as sufficient for non-quarantine entry. ( My understanding of UK entry requirements is vaccine of 2 doses of he same. I am on a list at local private hosp. for thsi Moderna Vaccine, whihc I was hoping would allow me back to UK. Now what? 1
Popular Post Will B Good
Why on earth, how on earth would a doctor know what advice to give? Other than I don't know............ so don't risk it. 3

Popular Post CrunchWrapSupreme
They've really had it in for Moderna since the Thonburi hospital CEO tried to order it on his own. He had thousands of people lined up with orders. Then they put a halt, and even took him to court over it. Big egg on their faces, the private hospital doing what the govt could not, considering how their hands are tied with the deals they already cut with the Chinese. I think that's all this is really about. 1 1
Popular Post Guderian
People should avoid getting boosters at the moment, but not because the benefits are unknown as the article implies, it's because it would be a very selfish thing to do if you've already had two shots while many people here have not even had one yet. It's far better that as many people as possible receive at least one dose of vaccine than that a select few get three doses (although I realise that the likes of Prayut and Anutin will already have their names down for a booster, lol). 6

A lot of us are in the same boat. Sino+Sino, Sino+Astra, or just Astra+Astra - but since it's the Thai version it won't count in many places. I personally think the divide between 1st world countries and other places will become greater in relation to ease of travel. Where does it leave us? Nowhere if you want to travel right now until Moderna or something lands.

As far as travel is concerned, consider yourself as being unvaccinated. It is going to remain like that for, I would guess, a year or more. I am planning to return to the UK via Portugal or Turkey. Spend 10 days there before going to the UK and doing 10 days home quarantine. No way am I paying some Tory donor £230/day to be locked up in an airport hotel Edited September 19, 2021 by Will B Good 3

mommysboy
People who have received the sinovac/AZ combo don't need a booster. AZ is proving to be as effective as the mRNA vaccines, better even at preventing deaths. The logical booster shot after 6 months would be another AZ. The only thoroughly researched combos have involved AZ/Pfizer. The doctor is quite right.

club
Went to a private hospital in Loei couple of weeks ago with my girlfriend to pre pay for Moderna that people were waiting in line to do. My girlfriend asked if this was for October. They told her October was not going to happen and that a new date between Jan and March 2022. I decided not to wait that long and will be leaving for USA next month. Also found this. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/coronavirus/moderna-vs-pfizer-is-one-vaccine-stronger-against-delta-variant/2603249/ They both give good protection against Delta but I will get Moderna in the USA and if and when I need a booster it will be Moderna. Don't feel comfortable mixing vaccines. We know so little about them now.

Incidentally, the latter is proving to be as effective as the mRNA vaccines. Guess you just want to do Christmas in USA, and have come up with a convoluted vaccine argument based on that, lol.

My conclusion (solely my conclusion) is that the keyboard warriors just want to be keyboard warriors of they are hypocrite. Just wondering. ezzra
Local doctors know sweet <deleted> when it comes to how and whet are the best ways to go about anything concerning this Covid Corona issue, a booster shot is recommended only after 5-6 months from the last vax shot, and this facts are indisputable, unless of course your a an anti vaxing type. which in this case good luck to you in keeping safe and healthy...
Enzian
I had a shot of AZ at Medpark in Bangkok in June and then decided to go to the states, where my Kaiser doctor told me don't even admit to the people in this hospital that you've had anything, just get two shots of Pfizer as if it is your first. Now I admit that all the young Kaiser doctors may not have graduated at the top of their class, but I just did what he said and I feel fine.
