Video: "Honest" taxi driver filmed with huge knife tells police he was "just cutting the roadside grass!"

A video posted on Jay Moi V+ featured an angry taxi driver involved in an altercation with another driver go and get a long knife from his cab.

 

Sanook said he was threatening another driver but the burly driver told the police he was just cutting the grass by the side of the road.

 

The post said that while the driver might claim it was for protection it was used in an inappropriate and threatening manner. 

 

It was an argument over jumping the taxi rank queue, reported Sanook.

 

The media caught up with the person who filmed the clip that happened opposite a hospital in Klong 1, Pathum Thani north of the Thai capital Bangkok.

 

One driver said they saw many cabs waiting and took their turn but one jumped the line. 

 

The Klong Luang police said that midday yesterday they had traced Somsak, 51, and charged him with a weapon violation and illegal parking.

 

Police have been trying to stop cabbies using this point to illegally stop for passengers bound for Bangkok.

 

Somsak had all the "answers" to his appalling behavior.

 

Somsak said he'd been through some flood waters and his car was shaking so he stopped to investigate. 

 

He was just handling the knife to cut some twigs and grass. On another day he saw that the area needed some gardening done.

 

He showed evidence that he was an exemplary driver with an unblemished record - he once even returned 14 baht weight of gold and 100,000 baht in cash to a passenger who left it all in his cab.

 

He was in the news for this public spiritedness and honesty last year, he claimed.

Years back I had to talk my way out of a situation where I had a big Hmong knife in my luggage on a night bus to BKK.  That was during some sort of military takeover.  I got through it OK ("Doesn't everyone carry a big knife in Isaan?").  Bus stewardess was ticked off, as she told us weapons were supposed to be checked upon boarding. 

 

Funny part was my wife and I shared a bag.  They didn't say anything about the ladies underwear in there.  She didn't let them know that she knew me.  555.
