And most Brits are vaccinated but infection rates going through the roof.

If PM Johnson decides to lift all precautionary measures, which he has done, then one shouldn't be surprised. Opening the country, opening the economy, shouldn't mean not being careful. Some measures, like wearing masks, keeping distances, not allowing full stadiums and theatres and other measures, are still necessary and will remain so for a long time, maybe years.

Arrived in Phuket last month, swab taken outside airport.

Taxi to hotel, wait for two hours.

Test results in and I was free to roam Phuket.

There was a long line when getting off the plane to check all the paperwork so be sure to get a seat near the exit.

That's great except the numbers entering Phuket where pathetic.

They're talking about hopefully 200,000 hitting BKK daily.

Bit of a difference.

44 million fully vaccinated....that still leaves the virus the opportunity to infect and kill 20 million.......however a good proportion of these will be young and healthy so damage in terms of deaths will be limited, but infections will be rampant.

The latest news are that a clear announcement will be made within days, hopefully this week. Obviously, as no definite announcement has been made the embassies/consulates have to go by existing regulations regarding COE, hotel quarantine etc.

They can all make as many decisions plans etc as they like and as many changes as they want, but until it is gazetted it doesn't matter. They don't really care about the problems tourists my encounter because #1 they are already in Thailand, #2 nothing that they say or do actually affects them anyway,

New infections are high among school children where vaccination percentage are not so high... and their families. Deaths' are mostly again in the elderly... who were initially vaccinated early in the year, and the effect is waning. Booster jabs are slow to take off and there is a lot of vaccination apathy now.

BP reporting swab hubs will be used outside the airport on arrival in BKK.

This is to avoid overcrowding.

These could be at hotels, hospitals etc.

Saying that tourists will have to stay one night at hotel to receive results.

So after my 2 flight, 20 hour trip, i can look forward to any amount of hastles.

Queuing, waiting for buses, carted off in the Bangkok traffic to somewhere else to get tested. then carted back again?

Am i allowed to travel freely to my destination in Thailand?

Can't wait for the YouTube videos of this circus.

It's a nightmare !  Who wants to start a holiday like that ?

Yes, I suspect it's mostly about the weather.

Look at Russia, nice and cold, COVID deaths at record levels. Europe - not so cold, not yet anyway - but it's coming.

Its called a flu season for a reason

In other words, the so-called "reopening" is a sh*tshow, and Thailand really has no idea what it's doing. Travelers would do well to give Thailand a wide birth for the next three years.
