ASEAN NOW Content Team
Timor Leste has been announced as the final participant in Group A for the AFF Suzuki Cup, which runs from December 5 to January 1. Brunei withdrew from the competition on Monday (Nov 8). On December 1, the two teams were set to play a play-off game, with the winner joining Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, and tournament hosts Singapore in Group A. The Asean Football Federation (AFF) said in a statement on Monday that the Football Association of Brunei (FABD) informed them that they will withdraw from the play-off match against Timor-Leste due to "complications imposed by the epidemic on the team's preparations." The Covid-19 pandemic had "far-reaching implications" on the Brunei team's preparations, according to FABD president Matusin Matasan, who added that "despite all attempts have been put up to remedy the challenges, it proved to be too complicated at this late juncture." "We wish AFF the best of luck in the next event and look forward to participating in the future edition," he stated. The FABD is "completely understood and empathised with," according to AFF president Khiev Sameth. "We know our Asean region has been heavily struck by the pandemic, and we're all working to solve the issues in different ways," he continued.
