Brunei has withdrawn from next month's Suzuki Cup qualifier due to the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak, which has prevented them from preparing for the regional tournament.

Brunei was supposed to play Timor-Leste in a playoff for a spot in the group stage of the competition, which is being held in Singapore, on Dec. 1.

Due to Covid-19, the Southeast Asia's biennial Suzuki Cup has been postponed till 2020.

"Unfortunately, the epidemic has had a significant impact on our team's preparations for the competition," Matusin Matasan, the head of Brunei's football organisation, said.

"While every effort was made to remedy the issues, it turned out to be too complicated at this late stage."

Timor-Leste will now compete in Group A alongside Thailand, hosts Singapore, Myanmar, and the Philippines, who are all five-time champions.
Vietnam, the defending champion, has been placed in Group B alongside Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos.

The event is set to begin on December 5 and conclude on January 1.
