Brunei Darussalam was represented by four young delegates in the Apec Voices of the Future 2021 conference, which was held in New Zealand from October 13 to November 10.

Khairunnisa Ash'ari, a member of the Legislative Council and the President of the Brunei Youth Council, led the Bruneian delegation, which included Muhammad Nasrullah Puzian of Politeknik Brunei, Lim Tze Liang of Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, Nur Alyssa Madihah Sopian of Laksamana College of Business, and Syairah Rafae'a of Universit (UBD).

On October 13, Syairah welcomed the delegation and presented a presentation on what mattered most to Bruneian youth.

The delegation was represented by Muhammad Nasrullah the next week to discuss and produce a youth declaration titled "A Greener Future."

The biennial APEC Opinions of the Future event brings together young people from throughout the Apec region to address concerns and have their voices heard.

Various speakers shared their perspectives on the four focal areas: international cooperation to tackle Covid-19, a future for all, a greener future, and a digital future.

Jayathma Wickramanayake, the UN Secretary-Envoy General's for Youth, Alvin Tan, Singapore's Joint Minister of State for Trade and Industry (MTI) and Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, and Al-Jazeera correspondent Wayne Hay were among the notable speakers.

The event came to a close with the formal presentation of the youth declaration to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, as well as an interactive session with her.
