Chonburi Governor releases new orders easing Covid-19 restrictions effective from today, alcohol sales ban at restaurants, etc. stays however

Chonburi, Thailand  - The Chonburi Governor has released new orders through their Public Relations Facebook page today (December 1st) detailing the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

 

The biggest change is that to gathering limits and closing times, allowing many venues to now close at their “normal” times, which refers to normal operating hours without Covid-19 restrictions. However, despite weeks of protests and pleas from business owners, especially in the tourist zone of Pattaya, alcohol sales at all premises on-site like bars, restaurants, hotels, nightlife, pubs, remain banned.

 

1. Gatherings of more than 500 people are not allowed except with permission from the Chonburi government (Such as specifically approved festivals in tourist areas like Pattaya). Gathering in the Chonburi tourism model area (Sattahip/Pattaya) is allowed under hygenic measurements.

2. Place allowed to open/Changes made: (We will not list every single place, only highlight the changes and basic announcements-Editor

I believe that too....it is as if they want to put all these small businesses out of business.... squeeze them out, meaning property owners will be unable to rent, and forced to sell at a reduced price. Someone will come in and clean up here......

Where is the consistency in this approach when in other Provinces/Towns/Cities of Thailand alcohol in restaurants is permitted. I believe Pattaya has over 80% of its residents jabbed.

Bped is a Pattaya Beach regular and well known for hanging out on the beach with friends and previously causing trouble, although mostly petty crime.

It's obvious why there is a alcohol ban at restaurants: the BiB can fine the owners and make money. Thugs on a beach on the other hand...

Pattaya is now a Green Zone and yet the mayor and governor still refuse to allow restaurants to serve alcohol - could it be as simple as the governor or mayor have a familky interest in Treetown which is basically the only show in town and has been packed serving alcohol for months and is ignored by the cops - right now that is all I can think of, Pattaya now green means they have been given permission from the CCSA to allow restauants to serve alcohol and yet they still resist, it is all I can think of

Clearly there is an agenda here with regard to Pattaya.

Somebody somewhere has upset the apple cart and consequently the severe restrictions are being kept in place.

Other than that the agenda is on behalf of vested interests who want access to prime real estate when the current owners throw in the towel because of the losses incurred.

it makes perfect sense when you look at it from the perspective of the government to remake pattaya into a family type place to visit.  No booze will keep the type of farang tourists that pattaya was built on away.

The government doesnt care about the economic pain this causes to the current businesses in pattaya. they are just collateral damage in their long range plans.

I think this is at the heart of it. Prayut and his cronies hate the sleaze and the associated image of places like Soi 6. It is also prime real estate. So if they can force these places to shut down they've killed 2 birds with 1 stone. Drive out the sleaze and pick up some prime real estate on the cheap for another mall, hotel, theme park or whatever it is they think people want.

 

They'll never get rid of it completely, but it will move further and further away from the prime beach areas. It will be less 'in your face' and tucked well away from the eyes and cameras of the Chinese tour groups, business conferences and families they so want.

The best time for Pattaya bar and restaurant owners to throw in the towel and hand back the keys to the landlords was back in April when the bars were due to close for a period of 14 days.  The next best time is right now.   There is no scientific or health basis for this alcohol ban to continue in Pattaya when Bangkok (of all places) has the green light to sell alcohol and not even the expert virologists that post regularly on here would be able to contort themselves into a position where this is justifiable.   

 

They might as well tell the bar owners straight what we already know.   Owning a bar or restaurant is no longer a viable business in Pattaya and the longer they hold out and try to hang on the more painful it will be.

scum like this don't buy booze from bars and don't sit down and have a few drinks with their meals go to mom and pop shop... 7/11 cheap booze ..closing bars and restaurants wouldn't effect what scum like this do ...
