Thai consumer protection police and FDA officials armed with a warrant issued by the Phrakhanong court raided a house in Suan Luang, Bangkok, where they found 70 million baht's worth of pirated brand name cosmetics.

The raid came after many complaints about sub-standard products.

They seem to be bent on destroying everything that people come to Thailand for, want a boring holiday, come to Thailand.

Can anyone explain how they come up with those figures ? Do they work it out at what it would be at full price if it was real ? If so it seems a grossly unfair and back patting, medal winning way of counting it. The value would only be what it cost to make and package - probably say 50,000 baht - not 70 million.

Probably even when its well known that most most people would not or could afford to buy the original at their inflated profitable prices.

They should be evaluating the loss at the retail value of the pirated/copy product.

If some of these pirated products are sold through a business, notice the tax people recover their revenue and govt  profit off that.

Pirated means fake or stolen?

Mostly fake but could be stolen, could be the real item obtained somehow from the factory and resold at an affordable price.

Don't worry, they'll be re-distributed wisely.

Exactly. Those buying fakes would not buy the genuine item, so the value lost to the brand name companies is close to zero. But that doesn't make a good headline, does it. Some argue that the company loses reputation if the goods are faulty, which again is nonsense because anyone buying an item at a 10th of its real price knows exactly what they're getting - and it isn't an item from that brand name company.
