could try a bladeless fan, as someone suggested you're probably better off going to a store to see what is too noisy for you

Lots of interweb reviews that show the >$500 Dysons are noisier and less powerful than the cheap $25 Walmart models.  But they do look cool.

My experience with plain old cheapo Hatari's was good.  Just had to clean out and relube the motor bearings once a year or so from all the dust.  About the same time the blades got all funky and had to be wiped down.

Not a 16” but an 18” MrKen fans are as quiet as any can get for a floor standing http://www.mrken-fan.com/product-detail/519. It won’t be as quiet as the MrKen ceiling fans as they are silent on speed 1, extremely quiet on 2 and even when you get to hurricane speed 6 are making less noise than most other fans on slow

More blades, slower speed for the same amount of push. I would be curious about the angle of attack of the blades. I would imagine the lesser the attack, the quieter the fan. I had an Hatari catch fire. Luck would have it I was down stairs and smelled the smoke. By the time I got to it the whole head was melted to the floor, room filled with plastic smoke. The fan was only a couple of months old.

Not just that, if that were all it took then the bigger fans you see would be quiet but the aren’t,

The fan blade shape is actually correctly designed to reduce noise, so same size fan, same speed blades higher push, lower noise.

I have Hatari ceiling 16" fan has 3 power settings but so powerful that 1 is enough, would be quieter if had more than 3. Need to clean fans to keep them quiet

Absolutely.... The God of quiet generously rewards those that regularly perform the disassembly, washing and reassembly of the lowly fans.

Have 16" Mitsubishi and sharp fans, they are pretty quiet.

The larger fan size 18" are quite noisy on the higher settings.

Go into Big C, LotusS or Home Pro and try them out before buying.

Used every day in bedroom and is now 19 years old  Hatari stand fan was expensive back then loads of function's never use..

All my other Hatari fans are noisy...

newer fans have 2 wall fans Sharp  very good powerful and quiet..

Lucky Mitu - have 1 x wall remote fan + a stand fan, not very powerful but very quiet

Have a total of 14 fans in the house,,,,  ALL Fans are stripped and cleaned and oiled every month = many windows open 24/7 + have a few dogs so lots of dust and hair about.

Thanks for the reminder. I have a Hatari floor standing fan and just cleaned the tiny amount of dust off the blades.

Some time ago I removed the metal screen as that also makes a little noise as the air passes it.

I had a dyson, they’re definitely a lot quieter, the only sound was the air whooshing, but yes they aren’t much more powerful if they even are, I returned it when I realized it was just a regular fan with no blades.

that being said there’s tons of other brands using the same design as dyson, if you want a quiet fan I’d say bladeless fans are the quietest.

Here's an actual comparison...  vs a $15 Walmart fan.  I've never tested it myself since I won't pop the money for a Dyson.  The guy (Dyson) is a genius at hoovering money out of pockets.
