Rental providers have just three more months to find another $1000-$1500 to upgrade switchboards that do not meet Victoria’s new minimum standards.

The incoming electrical safety standard requires rental properties to have modern-style switchboards, with circuit breakers and electrical safety switches installed, known as residual current devices (RCD, RCCB or RCBO), by March 29, 2023.

Good. There's nobody in Australia who owns rental properties that would even notice this paltry amount. Besides which the real cost would be reduced by about half due to tax write offs on top of the negative gearing.

This article is just the usual Murdoch press click bait, attacking the left wing Victorian government because the conservatives were all but wiped out in a recent election.

This article isn't an attack on anyone , its a reminder to landlords of their (future) legal requirements .

Because "controversial" and "forced" are neutral and not emotive words? Exactly how would a $1,000 tax deductible upgrade for safety be controversial?

I think that is a journalist trying to make a rather dull story sound slightly interesting

They could have said "Victorian government introduces safety reforms to protect renters". Nope, they chose to put a negative slant on it. Murdoch never praised a left wing initiative in his life. Gotta protect the rich end of town.

Yeah, great. The Australian tax payer, many of whom don't even own a property, subsidizes a Victorian government initiative, through negative gearing.
