Hua Hin’s most prestigious sporting event, the WTA Thailand Open, provides such an opportunity from 28th January to 5th February. The women’s professional tennis event is part of the WTA Tour and will feature some of the best female professional tennis players in the world. The total prize money available is US$259,303. The field now includes a late entry, the 2019 US Open Champion, Canadian Bianca Andreescu, who has been ranked as high as No.4 in the world. The addition is an added bonus to the already world-class field which also features defending champion Magda Linette from Poland, who made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in Melbourne. Seventeen-year-old sensation Linda Fruhvirtova from Czech Republic is another player who has made a splash in Australia and will now be heading to Hua Hin. Canadian Bianca Andreescu, who has been ranked as high as No.4 in the world. The tournament made its debut on the women’s calendar as an International-level tournament on the WTA Tour at the True Arena Sports Club in 2019. That edition was won by rising-star Dayana Yastremska from Ukraine and Poland’s Magda Linette was crowned champion in 2020. Covid related travel restrictions meant the event was unable to held in 2021 and 2022. In 2020, the Thailand Open raised over THB 1.6 million (around US$53,000) for the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Foundation. True Arena has all the necessary international standard facilities, including the sunken centre court with a surface identical to the Rod Laver Centre court, home of the Australian Open, tiered seating and grandstand. There will also be a live radio stream with Surf 102.5 FM’s Richard Buckle broadcasting each day from the venue. True Arena’s General Manager Paul King says ‘’sports fans will have much more to enjoy apart from world class tennis. True Arena will be transformed with Food Trucks, a beer garden and many more off-court happenings. Spectators are free, however VIP packages give the opportunity to upgrade your experience with reserved grandstand seats with refreshment and drink service, centre court photo memories, gift sets and tennis clinics. Hope to see you at the Open for an amazing sporting experience!” The WTA Tour comprises of over 50 events and four Grand Slams, spanning six continents and nearly 30 countries and regions with a global audience of over 700 million. There are more than 1650 players representing approximately 85 nations, all competing to earn WTA rankings points and prestigious tournament titles. Prior to the Thailand Open, the preceding WTA event is the Australian Open from January 16th to 29th.
