Looking for a new desktop computer

I need to buy a new computer. Mine died this morning.
It will be an off the shelf desktop.

It is a back up to my main laptop.

Prefer ASUS or ACER but will consider anything.

I tried JIB, Banana IT, Powerbuy, InvadeIT etc etc mai mee

Any ideas please Samuians?

 

NB I have had 'made to measure' ones before - not impressed.

I had never considered a midget.

As someone who started programming in the 60's on a Hollerith 1004 and an ICL 1901A, (8k memory - both the size of a mediam sized car) something that small does not fit into my understanding.

I will look into it.

I bought there a Laptop (during covid when it was not that easy to get what I wanted) and several times smaller stuff: always good, decent priced and fast delivery. 

 

Maybe worth a shot ... but I really wonder that none of the others have the right computer for you ...

Banana next to Lotus's use to have some good ASUS laptops with preinstalled 64-bit WinOS; I bought one there recently.

Maybe but the BMAX B2 Pro Mini PC seems to contain obsolete components.  For instance the graphics card is no longer in production and was first produced in 2017!

JIB has always been good for me.

I don't really understand the need for an off the shelf, just have JIB assemble one for you using midrange parts.
JIB uses genuine parts and give warranty.

Assembled PCs are better than off the shelf, which usually have proprietary parts in them and are more difficult to fix.

The problem is probably a location issue.

Here on the island, the 'IT' shops do not carry 'off the shelf' desktops - they want to build them for you.

The last two that I have had built were not very good. The last one was a dog.

Switched it on this morning and no wifi connection. (Bluetooth has not worked for months and months.) I kicked it and chucked it out. I have had issues with it from the word go.

Even my friendly, local IT support guy was frustrated with it. Reloaded Windows at least three times.

The assistant admitted that they 'cannot get technical staff'. It's an island issue.

I do buy my laptops there.

It's not that hard to put one together yourself once you have decided how you want it.

That's what I did with my PC.....🤗

Most stuff on any motherboard connections are the same........

Worse is that they’re equipped with a Celeron chip. Alright for non-demanding tasks though.

 

As an aside, OP probably doesn’t mean to be sarcastic but these desktops are not midgets, they are NUC - Next Unit of Computing - or mini-PCs. It’s the way the world’s going.

NUCs are so good, small and relatively cheap. Can only upgrade RAM and SSD, but they work like a dream. Had three myself.

They are good but mid 2023 it seems they are ASUS products now.

ASUS are OK but I would stay clear of ACER. HP and Dell are worth considering, they probably have the best service
