So they should pack in the fags just for the comfort of a new tenant as opposed to you not moaning about their comfort?

That would certainly be their smartest move,

But, whilst the law/rules permits such smoking then the 'victim' may have to move on....

Some would say that certainly the smartest move would be for the new tenant to not complain about an existing tenants entitlement.

What is wrong with smell? I gave up smoking 10 years ago and I don't mind the smell at all.

I hate cigarette smoke / smell.

I don't say a lot but I couldn't maintain a close relationship with a person who has cigarette smell on their body, clothes or hair. But I wouldn't expect that person to change their habits.

I must admit that it is probably not a battle that I would take on either.

That is you, which is not the case for most non smokers.

You’re kidding right? Why do you think hotels have non smoking rooms? And why many apartments and condos don’t allow smoking? Because most people don’t like other people imposing their filthy smelly stinky habits on them is why. Though those who don’t have basic self awareness, respect and common decency for others wouldn’t know this now would they?

Hi folks, I’ve moved to this condo in and I’m a non smoker.

I’ve chosen this property due to the view of the beach and sea breeze.

I have this neighbour below me that frequently  smokes and i can’t keep my windows open . The smell of the cigarette is just too disgusting for me

There’s no regulation in this condo about being  smoke free but wouldn’t one be more considerate of their neighbors if they are living in a condo instead of a stand alone house?

Anyone experiencing this ?

How long does it take to smoke a cigarette 5 min?   Simply close your window for 5 minutes whilst he smokes, then open it again afterwards, job sorted.

Have you ever heard of chain smokers?  They light one off of the old one.  I should know as I used to be horribly addicted to fags and spent most of my time thinking about my next cig even when smoking one.

Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs known to mankind.  I could not be happier to be done with them for over 20 years now.  Nasty habit that is now also an expensive habit and frowned upon more than ever.

As to guy on balcony my advice is first get a fan to blow it away from your balcony at least a bit and 2 move as soon as you can as he is very very unlikely to quit all of a sudden.

I thought condo's were classed as smoke free buildings these days,

You thought wrong.

People living in condominium units are not forbidden by law to smoke, fart, cook curries, etc on their premises.

Yes and often.   For reasons like this I have never signed a long term rental contract in LOS. I have only lived in serviced apartments that only require a one month contract.  My current building prohibits smoking in units but management does not actually enforce this rule.  I plan on moving to a new place early next year.

Or accept reality and get on with life.

That's a negative approach - how can things change if you "accept reality" I remember many many years ago on the London underground and British Rail there were just one non smoking carriage now there are none that was achieved by accepting reality?

Many years ago there was a Japanese fella in the condo below me used to stick his head out the window to smoke, I tipped a bucket of water on his head, my daughter thought it was brilliant, he never did it again.

Smoke from the balcony below, even several balconies below, is one of the known hazards of living in a condo building.

Some guys like to sit out on their balconies, drink beer, and smoke up a storm.

The smoke gets drawn into the condos above.

So then.

Never live in a condo building is the only good option.

Maybe you are lucky that they are not broiling meat down there.

Sure, things change. Sometimes. And sometimes very slowly.

And looking at Thailand, what do you think about those no smoking rules in bars?

I wouldn't wait for the day that smoking is not allowed anymore, and that law is enforced.

Why don't you use a fan to push away tobacco smoke?

An ordinary desk top fan can easily do the job.

But then he can't complain anymore...
