You are just making yourself look silly , having an argument and name calling session all you own .

I am just sitting back and laughing at you , like  watching a guy in a pub having an argument on his own 🙂

Immediately thought that I would run home and tell ASEANNOW about it. I will go back now and drink the coffee

OMG, how pretentious can making coffee get?

My coffee comes from a Nescafe tin, 17 baht,

Pour into mug, microwave 1 minute.

Keep It Simple Stupid.

It’s the same with Wine, Whisky, cooking, making it pizza, even home brewing beer….

You’re either someone into the quality and detail of something or you are not….

You are not and think it pretentious & I can see why… I think high end wine is pretentious, those who know their stuff clearly don’t…

You’re happy with instant coffee - great, I wish I could be….  I wish I could be happy drinking SangSom too, but tend to prefer something better, perhaps that’s pretentious too…

… ‘keep it simple stupid’….  If that suits you, great.

Now that is certainly pretentious.

Is that one of those they/them?

It's all about personal taste. I've had some of the best coffee you can buy, besides Vietnamese, which I will try when I visit Vietnam, and it was better than simple coffee, but I'll still drink Nescafe 0% because I don't have a maker yet and still like daily coffee. Starbucks makes a decent coffee, but it's inconsistent, which means different baristas make different coffee, even with the same ingredients. I've had home brewed, ground, many times, and it's still all in the preparation. Amazon is okay, not as good as Starbucks, but again, it's who prepares it. Specialty coffee shops I've been to here aren't as good as they are in Texas where I lived. If you try coffee without adding sugar or milk, then you know what a good coffee is. If you add things, it takes away some of the flavor. Just like using steak sauce on steak. You don't need it if it's a good cut, but it still tastes okay with it.

some missed communication there somewhere .... that can happen in Thailand.

I used to quite like Sangsom and Diet Coke, before I quit drinking. I do know the difference between high end and average wine. The good stuff can sometimes appear in the most unexpected places, and be reasonably priced..

I do like some of the finer things in life, but can do without the ritual that sometimes surrounds them.

There's a small coffee shop on the road to Thoeng at Huay Sak. The woman behind the counter makes a very good Americano. 35 baht.

Small cups, so I usually have two.

That's what the label on the tin says.

Been doing it for about ten years without incident.

I guess if I left it in the tin, or gave it two minutes, the result could be different.

According to Mr Chat, a Flat White is like a Cappucino but with a bit less milk, not quite as foamy and usually served in a smaller cup..

How it can be cold if it's an Espresso with steamed milk on top I cannot guess.

But all in all they are only coffee and milk in varying proportions.

Yeah that's what I thought. To be clear it wasn't iced but tasted like a hot drink that had been left sitting for 20 minutes. Weird, huh? Even weirder it was at a high end restaurant/cafe  where everything else was excellent.

I have friends who make their own pizza, beer, bread etc…

The processes they go through to reach ‘perfection’ is astonishing…   The ritual you mention is not a ritual, but a necessary process to achieve quality…. It’s the same with coffee and why the term ‘barista’ exists in the first place….   Someone who knows & understands the detailed process required to achieve quality.

Some go to extreme lengths to perfect BBQ’ing…..  your response is similar to suggesting Sundried beef from a road stall is great…

Though the Huey Sak coffee maybe great, you regular drink is a spoon of Nescafé in a cup of hot water which does kind of remove you from being a reliable source of what good coffee is ( no offence  - but I’d rather just go without !!! )

I agree with your comments on wine, the last time I found something exceptional and well priced I web back & got 18 bottles of the stuff !

I have a bottle of extra virgin olive oil, & a jar of honey….

Tests show both are not real…….  Labels often lie !

In this context our acceptance of what coffee is simply varies… or rather, our acceptance of coffee we’d fine enjoyable varies would put it more fairly.

But then, who drinks Macchiato?

Never had one, what exactly is a Macchiato.?

it’s what Nick drinks when he’s feeling flushed & menopausal 🤣

ChatGPT says that an Espresso Macchiato is espresso with a bit of foamed milk, whereas Latte Macchiato is steamed milk with espresso sprinkled on top.

Come on guys, it's coffee and milk.

I put a mug of water in wave for 2.5 minutes, then a T-bag. Never had any problems. Same as 400ml in my French Press.

yeah… I always figured it was somewhat of a myth….   But a BLEVE is a real thing…

Water superheated beyond its boiling point in a microwave has no nucleation points, added coffee ( or anything ) creates those nucleations sites in the super heated water  & creates explosive evaporation of scolding hot water…

Rare, but common enough to be able to recreate if you wanted to.

When I read the title I thought W T F, who would start something like this. So I read it and had a good laugh at all the Coffee experts here on AN.

Yes, I fell for it and replied a few times.

No no no. The coffee comes out of the tin as a liquid, already prepared with milk and sugar. For your scenario, I would have to keep milk and sugar separately. KISS.

You obviously failed to read my first post properly, or maybe you could not make the logical leap of tin to mug.

Hot foamed milk….   Coffee is also about texture….

I don’t expect everyone to get that… and of course it does sound pretentious as Laccessit pointed out earlier….

Nevertheless, a lot of things beyond our range of experience often are considered pretentious when ‘quality’ is often considered a major facet especially if it comes at an expense.

Ah those cans coffee  (Birdy & I guess Nescafé make them too) when in a bind, they’re not bad….    Better than instant  & 3in1….

You’re supposed to add water too Nick…..    not just put granules on a plate. 🫣
