But all my trips to Asia I have become more bitter , and the most important...selfish 

 

I will never forget a Scotsman in a Soi Bukhao bar ,an older guy who went to pay his checknim only to have an Aussie guy sitting at the bar say to him "Give her a tip mate ,we all do , 100 baht I give "

 

The Scotsman looked at him and in a beautiful way replied "Not this little black duck !!

And I have been saying that yo myself everyday , beautiful 

 

I'm just about to plan my next trip next month to Thailand...again 

 

I received a WhatsApp message yesterday from a young lady who was a housekeeper at a hotel I stayed at who once gave me a foot massage and small talk.

I gave her some money 600 B when I was leaving for no reason other than she gave me a sob story

 

To cut a long story short she  asked for money again on this message WhatsApp as she was going back to laos ,she then started sending me photos of her bus ticket.

I said to her ,"what am I getting out of this ,I hardly know you , and Not this little black duck!

 

And this why I travel a few years  a year to Asia ,it makes me selfish a place where one must do thinking survive ,to have your wits about you , especially in the Philippines or be ..and let's think of the words,...if you don't become "smart ,cunning ..you will be ...used....abused ...and left without (think of a saying) the arse out of your pants 

 

Even on the business class flight last time coming back I had a aisle seat next to another seat , it turns out a middle eastern couple had booked seats but they were separated,he was up the front her next to mine 

 

The man is sitting in my seat next to his wife who already seated 

 

I said this is my seat , he said rather impolite that I can have his seat up the front.

I'm thinking it could be better so i look to see it's a business seat in the middle of three ,

I said "not this little black duck Sir,out if my seat please !

He thought his middle eastern muscle body with gold chain would scare me 

 

The airline host comes to me "please Sir they are Muslim and she cannot sit next to male passengers next his wife 

I said ..."what am I getting out of it ?

Not even a BJ in the toilet ?

Not this little black duck sweetheart 

They moved them both to first class 

 

And please tell me have you become more "street smart ,wiser after your time studying in Asia , and use the word study because it's a lifelong lesson,,,, learning the wiser aspects of life 

 

Dealing with negotiations Tuk Tuk , street scammers , Philippines people, Vietnamese hawkers etc we have all become selfish ,wiser ,smarter 

And what about those who FAIL ,yes some FAIL 

They end up with nothing 

Who are the ones who didn't learn to be SELFISH,what happened 

 

I bumped into a old man last year in Australia who had been with me and 2 others on a visit to Pattaya ,he ended up living there but got used abused and..accused and ended up back in Australia...broke as a bum 

 

He used to give 500 baht tips , but girls gold chains ,all the bars loved him , he paid full price for taxis because...."they are poor" he said 

He argued withe one day for not tipping the laundry I picked my clothes up at 

"They are poor " he said give them an extra 100 baht you stingy 

I said they own the building they are hardly poor..I said not this little black duck 

Now he is back in Australia with the "arse out of his  pants" living in community housing on his pension 

 

Ok so let's ask...are you Selfish ? Wiser ? Have you become a not this little black duck person

Why on earth do you want to leave your lovely ,comfy home to visit a dump like Asia... with all it's risks? 

It appears that many users on this forum haven’t had the chance to meet an decent Thai woman. The only women you all seem to encounter are over-the-top, multi-talented professionals—like female versions of Johnny Sins. You know, doctors, astronauts, surgeons, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.

In any country good service from a low paid worker merits a tip. BTW, to avoid the kind of nonsense you experienced in business class I only fly first class. Give it a try. Worth every penny in my opinion.

It is NOT a Scottish word and according to some sources it was first used by an English historian in 1959!

I have always been selfless, because I have been taught to be this way, and I have no issues with me being this way, i.e. the need to go on a forum to ask others what they think.

 

I tip between 25 & 40 baht where I drink at the same bar that I frequent, I tip that amount because I feel that as the girls work 12 hour shifts for 300 baht a day, 6 days a week, those extra little tips that they receive helps, for example, in my case 3 x 25-40 baht can be 75 to 120 baht more per week for them, consider it a couple of meals.

 

Where I usually walk, I see a young girl and her young daughter collecting empty plastic water bottles to sell, on New Years I gave her and her daughter 100 baht each, because I felt the need to as I could see, the mother wasn't all there and my little contribution would go along ways, especially for the younger one. When I returned home I told the Mrs about it and she said, let me dig out some cloths in those sealed baskets that she has to give to them, why, because she felt the need based on my story.

 

If you want to not tip, it's up to you, I always tip at appropriate places, within reason of course, why, because I feel the wages here for Thai's are extremely low and the little extra can provide them with something small vs them having to take it out of their wages.

 

It's ok to be empathetic George.

 

Survival instincts has nothing to do with tipping, I consider myself a generous person, not a fool, that said, I also believe what goes around comes around in different forms.
