Missing metric on TV?: How to know when I reach One-million/Two-million Words?

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

Just curious about one thing...

So far, I have worn out two, or more, keyboards adding Topics and comments to TV.

Still, hard as I look, I haven't been able to locate the metric which shows how many words (characters) I have typed, so far, on TV, since the beginning of time.

If I knew, then I might be able to be compensated by declaring this number on my TAX form, if I were to claim the depreciation of the cost of the keyboard, provided I knew how many words that I had typed.

My guess is that I have typed a few words, but how many?

Anyone have any idea, meaning just a rough estimate, and only for tax purposes, really.

I am more interested in the number of words (not AI-generated words, of course) that one has typed, rather than the number of LIKES one has been granted by members that one might not even personally know.

I don't know anyone, personally.

If I did know them personally, then I might have fewer likes than is the case, as of this moment.

I realize that Google keeps metrics such as this.

But, does Google share this data with us?

They might, if only one knew where to look.

Speaking of keyboards,

I use Logitech, the cheap one, which is still excellent, and a great buy considering it is reliable, low cost, fast and accurate.

I prefer the color black, with white silk-screened characters.

Do you remember those glorious WangAn Terminal keyboards, which were integral to the terminal/display?

I have mentioned these in the past, just because they were that good, that fast, and they never failed.

I would pay a lot more than I pay for a cheap Logitech keyboard if I could find one that duplicated the look and feel of the old WangAn design.

These no longer exist.

Also, I would like to ask:

Can we not have some sort of PRIZE for those members who contribute over One-Million words to TV?

And, what could we give to members who type over Two-Million words in some given-period of time?

I am really interested in this Topic.

I am almost obsessed by it, in a way.

A good way....

It's not a sickness...I mean.

I feel that through my word count, which I maintain at my self-imposed minimum, each month...

I am making a valuable contribution to TV, and to the stature of the Forum, and to visibility of the forum on various search-engines.

This is the motivation for my Topic.

I am interested in this Word-Count metric, which I have been unable to find.

Without metrics, sometimes even world-class athletes begin to shirk and slide, and performance drops off, precipitously,...

When they least expect it.

Hope this helps, because I am sure that I am not the only one who has been searching around here...

Looking for this Word-Count metric...from the beginning of time.

Thanks and regards,

If you might know where this is...

Gamma

All I can say is the total you have typed is far two high!

What do you mean by...."too high"?

Or, "two high", for that matter?

Simply copy and paste all your posts onto a Word document. The count will be displayed in the lower left corner of the screen.

Please give us advanced notice of doing this, as it is likely to cause a global slowdown of the internet.

Good Idea...and I cannot say that I had not thought of it first.

However, this solution will not work:

As you can plainly see, OF COURSE:

image.png.d31d579ae019d71e715afca9a6c813de.png

One single Google Docs document cannot accommodate even 1/5th the number of words I have typed on TV.

Now, if you are talking MS Word...then....

image.png.03cc8fe7324e870dd50f94ad7f2e80bf.png

STILL, the problem here might be....

I stopped using MS Word because it does not run NATIVELY on my Linux Boxes....

AND...ONCE AGAIN.....!!!!

Here you have another example of a word which is NOT misspelled in the TV Editor, but shows up with this RED LINE under the word which is properly spelled.

The word is NATIVELY.

When we run software NATIVELY, we know the meaning of this.

ONLY the TV Editor does not know.

We humans know, of course.

So many questions.

And so little time.

Do they think we will live FOREVER?????

Despite your claims to the contrary it is obvious that your comprehension of English is not as High or Great as you make out.

In this instance please substitute "many" "extreme" "Excessive" etc for high!

Or in simpler terms that even you will understand;  You are insufferably verbose on AN!

You live in Thailand ?

You cannot claim a keyboard on taxes.

Here's my back of the cigarette packet assessment. As of 7:39 am today, 13,604 posts.

A typical post would be more than 100, and less than 300. Many short replies are less than 50, some long posts are north of 300. An average has to fall somewhere between 200 and 300, with a potential range of 50-500+. But considering the verbosity has increased progressively over time, this assumption may be negatively skewed.

I'll pick a weighted average somewhere in the vicinity of 3.5M to 5.5M words.

Apologies to all - I was bored this morning. :coffee1:

You gotta be kidding me...!

No wonder all my keyboards look like they do.

What are you, a bean counter or something?

It gets worse - assuming an average letter count of only 4 per word, that's 14-22M keystrokes, not counting backspaces.

If you have a spare 34 baht, install Key Press Counter from the App store. Count the strokes/words from your next 500 posts as a representative sample, then multiply by 32.

I'm sure many in the forum would be interested in the result.  :coffee1:

a. Do you think I would install some 3rd-party app on my Linux box, just to count my keystrokes?

b. Here is why I might not do such a thing:

image.png.5c37d2d65eb5fa43b3b45a1a6cd441a6.png

Anyway, I only care about the number of keystrokes stroked on one forum, and not for keystrokes made in support of  my other important work.

Number of words: 5,000,000

Number of useful words: 0

Number of interesting words: 0

There you go. Everything you asked for.

As with everything, it's always quality, not quantity.

we all know you stroke it often.

You pasted 1M words a long time ago.  Do you have any post that isn't 74 words :cheesy:

I thought I wrote mini novels .. .you got me beat.

1M / 13.5k post = 74

Here's 80 words, and less than 25% of the OP
