Why? In general, I sit and eat or stay and eat near a table. But sometimes I walk. Why not?

  • Like ice cream? Or steak with knife and fork?

No stand up and eat outside. if they sit down they're going to sit right next to me and turn on their f'ing phone and watch some crap with the speakers on.

Thai's used to eat rice with their hands too but the practice was ended by the king in favor of the highly civilized spoon and fork method.

I went to an Arab restaurant once (Jordan I think) and they ate rice with their hands. It was vile watching men with long beards use their hands to mix up the rice and slop with their hands then shovel it into the their mouths leaving residue over the face and beard.

Westerners in Thailand .

I only see Westerners doing it,  I never see Thais doing it

Go to any market with friend stuff and people are walking around eating things on sticks and out of bags. Pretty normal for Thailand from what I can see.

Half this site would be incapable of going back to the UK and posting from a flat .

That would be a privilege for half this site

I’m not bothered by eating and walking.

They term "Karen" can be used for both men and women. It is not always in reference to your gender. Google it.

But it is an insult.

That being said, it is such a typical Westerner thing to go into foreign countries and tell people how to act while they never would accept any foreigners coming to their countries and telling them what to do.

THAT is rude to me

I was commenting of foreigners  in Thailand , I don't recall ever seeing a Thai walking down the road eating a takeaway Pad Thai .

If foreigner went to my own Country and pointed out rude behaviour , then I wouldn't mind that

So they keep telling people how to act not realizing that by doing so they might one day turn this place into something similar to their home, the place they left for holidays or to live in a better place, which then they would dislike.

I would prefer it if Thailand remained the way it is and foreigners left their dirty bad habits at home

Yep , quite a few foreigners walking down the road today whilst eating .

The worst one was a 60 year old Western man walking through the market eating a mango .

He was walking and bent over a bit with his head sticking out and eating a mango and all the mango juice was dripping on the floor .

I do hope he washed his hands before touching anything in the market

I don't find the subject interesting enough to bother googling it .

Its already quite an old fashioned word usage , it generally stopped being used about 3-5 years ago .

Just the people behind the times and out the loop who are still using the term .

Its a 2020's word which has already gone out of fashion

Most of Thailand is farang free. Thais pick noses in cars.

Is that a serious question ?

My real life reply would be a sarcastic "Nah mate , my only interest in life is watching foregeners walk down the street eating food"  followed by a roll of the eyes

Strange how in one post you don't understand it, and the next post you are an expert in the usage and history of the term.

I didn't say that I didn't understand it , but I am quite certain that it was only used for Females , "Kevins" was the name used for the Male version , but Kevins was only used briefly because it all died out soon after .

Its  Just those not up to date who still use those terms

You must live near one of those Chiang Mai walking street markets for this to be an issue. Likely tourists having fun.

Ok, THAT is something I would even agree to and unfortunately not the only misbehavior. Even in the immigration you see things like "no shirt - no service". Just embarrassing.

In your OP you did not clarify which people you are referring to.

Really, even if they came from the "watermelon country" somewhere between "the river and the sea"? 🤐

It cannot be mentioned these days , it would have been considered as hate speech (in someplace) if I had mentioned foreigners .

You can say "Palestinians" , by why have you singled those people out ?

There's no need to speak in code .

Why did you think that a Palestinian would be treated different to anyone else and why even mention them ?

Why is that? If you criticize the behavior of foreigners, I would call it freedom of speech and not hate speech.

I live and work in Thailand and yes, I do criticize foreigners but mostly those foreigners coming from Western countries same as me, and as I enjoy the hospitality of Thailand every day, I don't want to be put in the same pigeonhole with them.

Just to name a few examples:

“Look at this underdeveloped Asians. They put toilet paper on the dinner table.”

No, they don't, it is just paper on a roll. Just because you narrow sighted imbecile are using it in the toilet, doesn't mean you can't use it otherwise.

“I know everything about Thailand. Thai people are all racist. They're looking down at us. They say “Khun Thai” but never “Khun Farang” just “Farang”.

First of all, Pattaya or Phuket are not Thailand and obviously you don't even have basic language skills, let alone hearing abilities. The word “Khun” means Mr. or Ms. and same as in our language is placed before a name, when you politely address someone.

“Khon” just means human or person and if followed by an adjective, gives us more information about that person for example about his nationality but other than us, who would say the American, Thai people refer to nationalities  by saying “Person + nationality”  therefore depending on where you`re from you might be the “Khon America”.

The word Farang is not an adjective but substantive and already includes the information  that it is referring  to a person (who comes from a western country) so no “Khon” needed.

It is just embarrassing to see so many shirtless Farangs walking through cities just as if they are walking next to a beach and more than one time locals asked me out of curiosity “you guys are so rich, you can afford expensive hotels, restaurants let alone your flight tickets. How come some of you cannot even afford a shirt.”

A professor from Chulalongkorn university visited me with his family a few years ago and I took them out for dinner at the Glass House. Before we drove out of Pattaya his 15 year old daughter was thirsty so I stopped in front of a 7-11 and she jumped out to get some drink.

Later she told me about an elderly Farang, who had approached her in that 7-11 and had asked her something and despite her English was excellent and she could clearly understand the words, she did not understand what he wanted.

“What did he say?” I asked

“500,- Baht, short time, ok?”

“WTF!!”

Unfortunately or maybe even fortunately we had been halfway to the restaurant already otherwise …

Let's just say I had some issues with comments I had posted in that area and what happened to them

and never got an answer when asking for the reason

Today I asked openly.

Now that's a very odd question.

The watermelon people have been and are treated differently to the chosen people by the western world, which includes - no offence - you as well, as I have read your posts in that sub forum.

Are you sure that you are holding the same standard when judging the actions of those two opponents?

Would you judge in the same way, if the actual conflict was between let's say two African countries? I doubt it.

However, my opinion opposes yours in that matter and when you look at the votes in the UN General Assembly, it is always 10 times more countries voting against the chosen people than in favor of it, so it is safe to say, I am not alone.

Nevertheless, I had the impression that any kind of productive discussion is not possible and at least to me it looks like that sub forum is just an echo chamber permanently reflecting the opinion of a few and I, probably not being the smartest, needed some time to realize that.

There is a good chance, this will be my last post in here and I will share the fate of those posts I mentioned.

In that case, all the best to you and may the history books have mercy with us.

Just call them the Palestinians and the Israelis , no need for the

watermelon people" or "the chosen ones".

The Palestinians are most entitled and privileged people on the planet.

You wouldn't have heard of their cause if it wasn't for Israel being the ones they oppose .

They only have mass World support and mass funding because they are fighting against Jews .

They would have as much support as the Rohingyas have if they were fighting against Buddhists

That is not based in reason or logic though , thay vote that way because the oppose Israel's existence .

Cases are bought against Israel because other Countries oppose Israel's existence

You require this all over thailand? Can I eat standing up outside my home? What exactly is a "designated location"?

Down my gullet? I'm not a pelican stealing fish n chips 😂😂😂🤦. What utter rubbish.

Well you must eat your hamburger with a knife and fork eh. Maybe you use a spoon with chicken wings. Cut up doritos with a butchers knife.
