I think it's only if you choose to use their Passkey system, which is what comes up on screen when you open the app. But you can ignore it.

No 'selfie is required' if you have not set up PassKey, which is like a second tier authentication. 

 

Just ignore the PassKey requires (i.e. go back) and you wont be asked for a 'selfie'...  the request may pop up from time to time and you can just go back and ignore it.

 

OR... you can be a grumpy old man and say... "never using grab again"...

It is just a food delivery company for F's sake, not BBK or Lazada COD!

For quite some time, Grab has required a selfie.

If the selfie is not clear enough...then...

One must post multiple selfies.

This happened to me....about four years ago.

Since that time, Grab has not requested further selfies from me....

Maybe....I'm just....

Too Ugly for my Grab.

No I have been ordering consistently for 3 years almost every single day. Yesterday night they asked me for a photo. When I clicked "I will do it later" or something similar the order would not go through. 

 

Did anyone order since last night? Maybe it's a random thing. I did not set up a passkey 

I use Maxim in Hat Yai, better than Grab, and certainly no selfie requirement

Depending on what time last night, it might be a security thing to make sure there is a person there.  If I was a grab driver late a night i would be leery of the person i was picking up and the location.  

 

Last thing I would want is some drunk that is going to puke in my car or be a problem.

Jilt Grab, use Bolt instead. Of late I counted on Grab to get me rides in Jakarta. I registered my credit card in the Grab app. By the 3rd ride Grab started wanting to (again) "verify" my credit card whenever I ordered a ride. Not only that, but it let me down even after I scrambled on my banking app to verify the (already verified) credit card.

 

I forgot about Grab and used the local Indonesian app (Gojek) instead. I had zero issues with paying with my credit card and getting rides on Gojek.

 

Grab is the worst app of its kind ever.

This isn't new though? I had to take a selfie many years ago to confirm my profile, and it annoyed me quite a bit, because it was 5am and I was about to book a ride to the airport. No idea what exactly triggers it and when.

No, you don't...at least it was not a requirement yesterday.

 

EDIT:  As you just clarified your thread, I just ordered a food delivery to check and no selfie was required for that, either.

Nonsense.   As of yesterday evening, Grab Thailand does not require selfies.
