Not for me. I don't even have sex that often.

Depends what you want. You can book a hotel room with pool for 360 baht. You can go to a walking street market and eat 5 or 6 different things. Get a 200 baht massage. Only 50 baht for a close shave. Cheap dental. The west does not have those prices.

If you have to travel to TH for sex, then your life sucks already.   It is so much more than that.  And at some of the prices y'all quote, sex isn't cheap here.  That you have to pay for it at all, is telling enough.

Any country with a wide disparity of income level, will have P4P that poor (expats/tourist) people can save up for.  Expats once a week or month, or tourist, once or twice a year.  Not sure I'd call either living.

I came here strictly as a more affordable place to retire, as was getting a bit tired of working, (all 2 days a week) and wanting a care free, stress free place to live out a few decades, before I crap out.

My life here remains basically the same as in the USA, quite enjoyable, just less expensive, less PC, and less regulated.  Absolutely nothing changed except location.  And now I can live in a custom built, self sufficient house, 5 minutes scooter from the surf.  I could even walk to the surf if not lazy, and damn hot out.

Speak for yourself. It may be all that for those dudes that struggle to pull back home, but we're not all here for that.

Depends what people class as quality of life. Booze choice and groceries etc might suck a bit, but personally here for the overall vibe and that easily beats the prissy, PC West, which I find very hard to cope with nowadays.

So as in the West, when the quality of life is soooooo high, people cannot get laid? They have to come to the 3rd world to get laid?

Is that why, there are sooooooo many from the West heading to Thailand and other 3rd world countries, just to get laid?

I'd agree with @hotsun, but change the destination to SEA.

I've been laid in Thailand, Cambodia, PI, Vietnam ........ no need to even look much, they find you.

So you paid hookers and used condoms after paying money for flight tickets. Seems like a waste of money.

I never bothered with condoms, and the flight tickets were around 1000 to 1500bht a flight.

Did the bus a few times Chiang Mai to Bangkok to Siam Reap to Phnom Penh to Saigon.

I was on multi non-o so had to go somewhere every 3 months anyway.

It was quite nice travelling around the different countries.

There are many issues to consider. Both myself and many of my friends consider the quality of life here to be infinitely higher than it is in the US or Europe. Going back to the US is not an option. I would not want to live there now, unless I was being paid over a 3 million dollars a year, and then I would only do it for 3 years, and then leave. For me, it is about quality of life, and my level of fulfillment on a daily basis, which I seem to have here in abundance. A big factor here, is the relatively light hearted attitude of the people. You just do not find that in the US, where most seem bitter, disenchanted, unfulfilled, and heavy hearted.

This is an entirely subjective topic, of course. But some of us live very good lives here. Some of us have been fortunate enough to find an outstanding woman, who is delightful to be around, on a daily basis, always has our back, and is fun, smart, and lovely. And is NOT my age! For me, that likelihood of finding that back in the US, would be very low. So, that is a big factor for me.

The second factor is just the quality of life. Sure, I miss alot of the culture back home. The theatre, independent film (which I can download here with no issues at all, and a super fast 1 gbps fiber optic connection, at under 700 baht per month!), stand up comedy, live jazz, etc. But I have a lovely home that I rent, for about 10% of what I would pay in California, The US now is just stupid expensive, and nearly everything is over priced. I live very well olhere on an income which is not huge, have access to great health care, at a tiny fraction of what it costs in the US, and do not have to put up with alot of the aggravation that I had to when I lived back there.

It is a very personal choice. I have friends who seem to be dropping like flies. I could be dead next year. You just don't know. I am not extravagant, but I live very, very well. A nice house, a new car every few years, new motorbikes for my gal and I every few years, a great art collection, plenty of good wine in the wine cooler, a new 77" OLED TV, a world class home theatre, plenty of international travel, etc. For me, it is a great lifestyle, that I could only dream of in the US. Well worth the expense and very easy to justify. Life is way too short. I have never been a person of extreme thrift. To each his own.

I used to have more issues than I do now. I worked on my attitude, which was getting in the way of appreciating Thailand for what it is, and was clouding my experience here. Used to stress over stupid stuff, as you can see from some of my past posts. Used to allow the politics to make me angry. Now it is not something I take seriously, just something I comment on, without anger or an emotional investment. Now, I just tend to laugh it off. Spent some real time back in the US recently, and it allowed some clarity and perspective, that I am very grateful for. Now, I just chuckle at most of the nonsense. Water off a duck's back, so to speak.

And it never will.

EVER.

Because Thai's just don't want to let westerners show em how it's done...

Screw em, let them wallow in the mess of their own making.

regards,

bob.

Thailand is my home,

I don't think a couple of thousand baht for a flight to China/Cambodia/PI/Laos/Vietnam is all that far to travel.

Same attitude, different target (was Prayut, now Trump).

...and if the Thais allowed that to happen, and TH becomes a 1st world nation where will you run to next?

Your own saying "Screw em, let them wallow in the mess of their own making" has hit the fan IMHO.

Waaaaaaat?

Quality of life is better in America than Thailand?

For whom?

You're saying a cashier in America has a better life than a cashier in Thailand?

Opinion, not fact.

[NEEDS CITATIONS]

60% of people in America are

B-R-O-K-E.

That's why they voted for Trump.

He's magically going to change that.

Yeah, right. 😂

Dude.

My "quality of life" here in Thailand surpasses that in America.

Otherwise, I'd be in America, if that was truly better.

Why would anyone choose to live here if their quality of life was BETTER back home?

Duh.

Think man, think. 😀

^^^ THIS ^^^  This is exactly why I come to Thailand. I have a young, beautiful, and loving partner with whom I have been together for 10 years this July. There is nothing like cuddling up each night with the person you love. It's not even about the sex which is always available with her. The best I could get back in Australia would be an old feminist nag who would make my life miserable. No thanks!

So many guys in the west just don't know what they're missing, most of my friends are married to women their own age back there, and though they may be in their mid 60s some of their women look like they're in their 70s, and my heart goes out to them big time. Yikes.

My question has always been why be with a woman your own age if you don't have to be?

So... it's the getting laid factor that is causing this vast exodus!

Of course Thailand has a better quality of life than some western country where we are taxed up the ying yang, have to wait a week to see a Dr ( that only has 10 minutes to see you ), is too expensive to rent anything decent, public transport is a bad joke, everything costs too much and the cops are too busy being woke to stop criminals.
