Food Delivery Change?

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed a change in the food delivery protocols?

It used to be that if you ordered food for delivery, they would first look for a driver and then, once a driver was located, they would put your order into the kitchen.  Not anymore, or so it would seem.

Now, they make your food and THEN, they look for a driver. Or, they make your food and hope they find a driver.  Right now, my food was "ready for pickup" 10 minutes ago, and yet they're still looking for a driver, and the estimated delivery time is almost an hour away.  What do I get when I finally get my food? Food that has been sitting around for an hour?

I may have to re-think how I get food delivery.  I don't mind paying for food, but I really don't want food that has been sitting around for an hour.

Maybe I should just refuse delivery and tell them I don't want it?  I'm tempted to do just that.

Ive not noticed it to be honest, but then Iam not in the kitchen when they cook either.

It's finally on the way, but they won't let me cancel it.  Very convenient, for them.  I'm still deciding. I may just let the driver sit there all day, waiting for me to come down.  Maybe someone will get the message that the current protocols are nonsense.

Food that has been sitting around for an hour?

I understand very well what you mean.

But... is 1 hour such a big deal? Are you 100% sure that when you visit a restaurant and give your order from the menu that the food is prepared immediately on order?  Just observe the time it takes on your next visit.

I'm still deciding. I may just let the driver sit there all day

You think it is the fault of the rider/driver?

Even the thought of punishing him is disgusting, to put it very mildly.

Hostility, says a lot about your diet and attitude.

Try going to the market, buy some fruit and vegetables, you'll find you will become a better person.

Is one hour such a big thing?  Yes.  It is.

They charge a premium price and then send me food that has been sitting around God knows where for an hour and in what condition?  Bacteria can grow in an hour.  It really can.

I'm not sure who pays for that kind of nonsense, but it won't be me, I assure you.

The people running the food delivery service need to re-think their method of operation.,

Hostility?  What, exactly, do you know about my diet and my attitude?  Does it bother you that I stand up to nonsense?  I'm usually a laid back guy, but once in a while, enough is enough.  You have to draw the line somewhere.  I draw the line at late orders and food that has been sitting around too long, all for a premium price.

I probably eat healthier than you do.  Once in a while, I'll order some food to be delivered.  I have no particular food budget, and I can buy whatever I want whenever I want.   If I wanted to, I could spend 1000 baht a day on food and it wouldn't put a dent in my budget.

After 1 minute the driver will hang the food bag somewhere, drive away and instantly forget about it, and as always the only person getting uptight will be the farang.

Recently, using Grab, I was informed "No drivers in vicinity, waiting for driver" or something to that effect.

So, it appears that Grab, at least, still waits for a driver to be available.

I have also seen "Not enough drivers in the area, premium fee only".

And the fee is much higher than normal.

The driver called my number 10 times or more.  I didn't answer and it finally stopped.  I got an email from the delivery service showing charges.  They will NEVER collect.  If that means I never use that service again, so be it.

Well, that seems to have changed.  Now, they cook your food and hope that they can find a driver.  What would they do if they couldn't?  Make the customer wait until next week?

@jas007What a victory -- you made a low-level delivery driver's day a living hell, costing them both time and money to stick it to a company that doesn't care.

The fact that you are posting here for validation is beyond pathetic

I assume it's not the driver that pays anything. The charges go on my non-existent account at the delivery service.  Maybe they will wake up and figure out that they need to make a few changes.  Playing games with good customers is not a recipe for success.

As for my posting here?  Maybe a few people will take note and not fall for the current protocol.  Just say no.  No one needs food delivery in Thailand.  But the company needs you.

In my case, one order was canceled, and another order was fulfilled.

Yes. Same thing happend this week.  Grab took the order and then the food was ready for pickup.  It took an hour from order placement to delivery.  Lsst week the same food order took 30 minuted from order placement to delivery.

That's how they used to do it, at least for me. But something has changed, I think.  Now, they cook your order and hope for a driver.  What if it takes five hours to find a driver?  During that time you can't cancel because the food is done.  It's all nonsense.  From their point of view, I could order food at 3PM and they could be looking for a driver at midnight. And I can't cancel.

Just say no.

My family order several freshly cooked Thai food items every week from well known restaurants here in CM; pizzas and more.

Delivery is always very fast, seems to me they have delivery drivers available on very short notice.

The point is, they don't know if, or when they will find a driver.  They really don't. And yet they cook your for and hope for the best.  For me, I say no.  Go find another sucker.

They won't miss your bussiness.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't. But from what I'm reading on these forums, the restaurant business isn't doing so well right now.  How often do they find a customer willing to pay almost 700 baht for a meal that should probably only cost 200?  Now, they have one less customer.  Bad for the restaurant. Bad for the delivery service.  Good for me. I can find food across the street and spend less money.  Plus, I get the exercise of walking across the street.

Anyway, you guys defend the delivery service if you want.  They're out of line and what they're doing is poor business.

Finally showing your colours, that the topic isn't about the delay, but that you can't afford it.

My experience as a daily user of both Foodpanda and Grab is that nothing the app tells you about the stage of the delivery can be trusted as true.

How does that comment make any sense?  I'll wait. I guarantee you, I can "afford" more money than you'll ever lay your hands on.

Anyway, I just got back from a nice e meal at a nice restaurant.  The entree, PLUS two Heineken beers, plus tip, was still less than the food delivery I ordered.  I win, and there's one less customer for a delivery service and one less customer for a restaurant. Maybe they'll see the light at some point..

It's funny.  I can order a Bolt taxi, go anywhere in Pattaya, have a meal, and take a taxi home, and I'd still be saving money.

So you know my finances?

All I know is, braggers are usually unhappy with their situation

I wasn't  the one that raised the issue of what I could afford. And my situation is fine, all things considered.

I'm 73 years old, but I can't do much about that. Otherwise, I'm good.  And the delivery service can find another sucker.
