Crime Thai-British Woman Escapes Attempted Assault by Condo Manager

In a disturbing incident from Pathum Thani province, a Thai-British woman narrowly avoided an attempted assault by a condominium manager. At around 1am on July 31, the suspect, who manages the condo’s juristic team, entered the woman’s unit under false pretences of borrowing a phone charger. Once inside, he allegedly disrobed and used her bathroom facilities before making inappropriate advances.

 

The victim, a 21-year-old who lives alone, recounted the ordeal to Chulalongkorn Pratunam Police, where she filed a complaint alongside her 29-year-old boyfriend. The suspect had messaged her via a chat application, a medium she struggled with due to her limited fluency in Thai. Misunderstanding his intentions, she inadvertently allowed him access to her space.

 

Upon arrival, instead of accepting the proffered charger at the door, the manager allegedly forced his way inside, undressed, and took a shower. Emerging from the bathroom unclothed, he requested a towel, which the frightened victim provided. As the situation escalated, she tried in vain to flee the flat, eventually taking refuge on the balcony to contact her boyfriend.

 

Her boyfriend, Nattakit, shared in an interview that he was alerted by the persistent notifications on his phone. Arriving at the condo around 2am, he was met with silence and a locked door. During his attempts to gain entry, he heard the suspect’s angry claims and then, unexpectedly, the door opened after the suspect retreated to dress.

 

Once inside, Nattakit confronted the man, who hastily apologised, offering a bizarre explanation about a quarrel with his own girlfriend preventing access to his flat, supposedly justifying his inappropriate behaviour.

 

The situation left the couple deeply unsettled, exacerbated by their discovery of a suspicious, smoky odour in the bathroom. Convinced the smell indicated illicit drug use, they swiftly involved the authorities.

 

Local police are yet to update the public on any drug tests or legal measures against the manager, and concerns are growing. The couple's unsettling experience has sparked conversations about tenant safety and the responsibilities of property managers.

 

This incident also highlights the vulnerabilities faced by expats struggling with language barriers, amplifying the alarming breach of trust in residential environments. It raises the question of how such situations can be prevented and what protections should be in place for tenants.

 

Residents and local authorities alike are awaiting police clarification on the investigation’s progress. Meanwhile, community discussions are seeking solutions to prevent similar breaches of safety in residential developments across the area.
