I’m having trouble sleeping due to my financial situation .

Featured Replies

Ive recently posted a topic in the Insurance in Thailand forum ( My private health insurance monthly cost is killing me ) . Due to my current poor and worrying financial situation , I am having great difficulty in being able to both get to sleep and staying asleep , as soon as my head hits the bed pillow , around 10 pm , my mind goes into over drive and starts to think about my financial issues and their implications, which generally keeps me awake for much longer . Some one who posted a reply to my insurance post , mentioned cannabis , as a possible answer to help with my poor sleep .

So I thought would ask here to see if any one can advise me or recommend a cannabis product that may help me with my current poor sleep problem. I have never smoked cigarettes and I’m not currently taking any medication .

I mentioned the cannabis eatables.

I have found that within an hour or so after eating half a cookie I am struggling to keep awake.

High Indica hybrid cannabis, it's not hard to smoke it.

You will fall asleep instantly, but may have some vivid and slightly odd dreams.

I buy mine for 2bht/g but you can spend more if you really want.

Also it fixes my arthritis which was an unexpected bonus for me.

Down from 8 paracetamols a day to ZERO, pain all gone, swelling all gone.

Have to smoke 0.5g before bed every night, which isn't that much of an effort.

My biscuits cost 700 Baht for 20 and I usually take half each evening. That is 525 Baht per month.

I doubt that will break the bank.

Cannabis will mask  your problems but not solve them.

(Health insurance: I'm 78 and pay 300 Euro/month)

My cannabis flower is 230bht (inc delivery) for 100g, that lasts 7 months (0.5g per night).

That's 30bht a month

And I've stopped drinking wine coolers in the evening saving another 600bht/month.

So actually a net gain.

Go to a Pharmacist, they gave me some Blue Antihistamines, take 3, 30min before sleep and cheap as chips, actually cheaper than chips. 🙂

I'll offer an alternative solution that's absolutely free.

Meditation.

You don't have to be religious or even spiritual to meditate. While meditation is used in those practices, neither are needed to get all the benefits of meditation.

15 minutes a day sitting quietly isn't too great a burden to carry to calm your mind so you can get some restful, peaceful sleep. (Twice a day works even better.  There are dozens of meditation videos on Youtube, but you will want to find "How to meditate for beginners." Most are only about 5 minutes long because it's really easy to meditate.
Hey, it works. However, you have to do it regularly for about a week before it begins to show its effects. From then on, it's 'the peace of nature' all day long.

Again, why some moron could give you a thumbs down is beyond me!

It is a great suggestion and I have found the deep sleep music to be very relaxing at the end of the day.

This 'thumbs down' is probably from one of my stalkers. There seem to be three of them. I could post 'Chiang Mai is in Thailand' and they would give it a negative emoji. I actually find it flattering that they spend so much time watching for my posts.  🙂

I meant to say in a government hospital so take your thumb down and stick it where the sun sun don't shine, unless you know of a medical treatment that would cost more than that, if so pray tell me, I'm 74.

Cannabis seems to work only in the short term for sleep? Sorry, don't use it myself.

But maybe a short-term fix is all you need anyway.

Switching from natural to manufactured "pharmaceuticals" I have a stash of Xanax (Alprazolam) handy for those stressful times in life, also helpful to get to me sleep on long-haul flights and manage jetlag.

They work very well for me and guarantee a good nights sleep.

As finances are a concern, I believe a Thai medical clinic can give you a prescription for a Government pharmacy where they will be reasonably priced. If not, you can ask the Doctor at a private hospital to give you the prescription to fill externally yourself at a Government pharmacy, avoiding the usual private hospital mark-up.

Be careful not to take them regularly (read daily or thereabouts) as resistance/addiction can be come an issue with benzos. I generally take a few a month. My last prescription of 30 tablets lasted me around a year.

Exercise and meditation (as mentioned above) can also help with expending your nervous energy prior to bed time.

Also worth employing sleep hygiene methods - no food several hours before sleep, avoiding digital screens, playing gentle and calming background music/noises (plenty on YouTube) etc.

More money available for bangin' another short time hot girl?🙃🙃

Get a recording of someone reading a boring story. You will be asleep in minutes.

Eating cannabis takes too long to kick in, so problem not solved.  Cheaper options mentioned, or just read all the hate threads on AN, that should bore you to sleep and give less worry free thoughts, realizing you aren't them and life is good.

Works for me ...

You've already identified what is keeping you awake, sky high health insurance fees. So eliminate them and sleep better. A good night sleep will probably be better for your health than a rip off health insurance company ever will. We are all going to die.

That 'account' needs to be started when healthy, and you think you don't need insurance.   Rolling the dice is safer.

Agree, is much cheaper in the long run, or should say, has been for me, as I can't that sick, to use up my oops fund, or would spend that much for a few last crap year, if that.

Absolutely not, I got rid of my healthcare plan 10 years ago. Since then I've saved almost 3 million baht, and I'm not no longer dealing with these ridiculous healthcare companies that were hiking my rates 15 to 20% every year, despite no claims!

I've had two incidents in the past 10 years where I've needed a hospital here in Thailand, the first one cost me 7,000 baht and the second one required an 8-day stay in a very good public hospital and totaled 36,000 baht including two CAT scans.

Even if I found one that was affordable I would not consider a healthcare plan at this point in my life. I don't want it and I don't need it.

Wrong insurance company

If you are not required to have health insurance dump it. Total waste of money and full of fraud. Chances of them ever paying anything about 1%

Ambien or Xanax. You would need to see a psych.

indica chills me out, but does not help me sleep.

Totally worked for me when I was stressed from being in management (went back to being a blue collar, stress gone)

I did it right before going to bed. Watch a video and do it for a few days, you will get the hang of it. If there is a Transcendental Meditation center near you, that could also get you on the right path. I figure most of the larger cities would have one. Reduced my BP as well.

I Agree last time I got a quote some years ago it would have been 500b a day ! that's more than I spend on cigarettes and beer...:coffee1:
