That's because many Asians enter via bilateral agreements, or VOA, not VE.

And because they are on different boards.

I'm wondering how many who posted here about "was told" didn't follow instructions, attempted re-entry and was denied.

I've yet to see a post to that effect.

Posting such would just highlight their ignorance and stupidity, so they'd refrain.

Three weeks ago, I was not asked for an onward ticket by Thai Air in Frankfurt, nor was I at Swampy. I came in Visa exempt, USA, I have a multi entry cambodian visa.

I had an onward ticket regardless. but was never asked. I have a lot of entries and exits so Im sure thats why I wasnt asked by Immigration.

Do you mean you have a lot of visa-exempt entries?

I have dozens of entries over the years, some on the old 30-day visa-exempt, a boat load of marriage or retirement extensions, a fair few on either tourist or Non-O visas, but only recently started using 60-day visa-exempt as it fits the regional work and trips to the UK. And only asked for an onward ticket for the first time last August.

Yeah like 8-10 over the past two years.

Be prepared to be grilled on arrival.

I know of 4 people who arrived in the last 2 weeks, and were forced to get a year visa.

All of them come here 2 or 3 times a year

That happened to me last year. I had a visa exempt 60 + 30 then two weeks in Vietnam. On returning,  the IO wasn't going to allow me in, eventually after what seemed an age he stamped me in but told me in no uncertain terms that I would need a visa before the any further visa exempt arrival.

Last year, was trying to make a booking with big flying company.

Red some disturbing issues about not letting you fly if travel papers were not ok.

Coming in on exempt, was my plan and later extension and border hop. SO 5 months total.

They dont hold me back all the way in booking. No pop up or warning, HOWEVER, I checked on travel papers, way down in site and that showed they didnt give me permission to fly ! CHecked it a week ago and is still the same.

They tell/told me, for that time span , to have a visum ! I was not allowed on board. If I filled in 2 months, all was ok.

Contact with them, was hopeless.

Even a personal letter about it to CEO, was intercepted, lost for a month and then back to helpdesk and still not straight answer yes or no to fly.

So I had to fly with another company !

Even a check on IATA, an overall controlling organisation of all flying companies, showed it was allowed.

But they made own rule, NO FLY.

As im not a multi millionaire, I choose another company. I dont want to be at the gate and they tell me, "NO cant fly".

With the other company, no problem at all and no problem with immigration Thailand.
i entered Thailand in Krabi. Was lucky, came in immigration section, looking which way to go.

Thai female officer saw me and said , come to me , I will help you and in Jiffy time I was out, in Thailand.

Extension later in Satun took an hour. Mmmm and i was the only one there.

Guess they liked me and want me there to stay for a while.

Borderhop in Prachang took maybe 15 minutes, out and in, a 1900 baht

Yes, I had to fill in TM6 then. But again a very helpful female Thai officer  filled it in , for me !

Allready red in AN about ways.

Same price as Satun, only double time 2 months again on exempt. Yes, know should be free of paying.

But if "official", I should have gone into other country, stay there for some time and then returning.

How much would have costed me that? As wife's car is not allowed in Malaysia without special papers AND car plate !

And a hotel was at least 10km further from border Prachang .

Then I should have gone to the other Malaysian border, Padang Besar, with all their regulations.

Again no car, so park somewhere for some days and then walk to all !  Changing money , hotel booking, pffff.

I had thought about the temporary flight ticket out of Thailand, as mentioned.

But instead followed this way. No clue if all is still the same or changed again.

Red about that Thai organisations protested to earlier new rules, as was said, people start working in Thailand on false papers.

SO for that , the visum should be adjusted again. No clue that happened as other issues popped up. Like a war.

New is now the DAC's every time to fill and send. Didnt need DAC for Malaysia, as out/in, you are in no one's land.

Topic is in relation to legal entry, not illegal entry.

Which part is illegal?

Losing the PP?

Entering this time on 60 day visa exempt ( applied for non -0  havn`t had a reply so I assume they won`t be granting one ) . It`s a return but for a 5 month stay . Not sure if this counts as an onward ticket , or if it needs to be within 60 days ?

Tickets dates can be changed so not an issue. As far as immigration are concerned, you have an onward ticket (if they ask about it).

Arriving 2nd time this year on a 60 day visa exempt. Dont want to buy onward ticket yet because I dont know where or exactly when I want to leave Thailand. Will I typically have  a problem at the immigration on arrival?  UK Passport

If anyone checks it will be the airline before your departure.  That can depend on the airline and even on the agent, so no way of knowing if they will or not.  I have never had immigrartion check.

If in doubt I always buy a 48hr reservation from one of those onward ticket websites.  At least half the time nobody checks but it's worth the piece of mind.  I don't want to have to scramble at the last minute at the airport to do that.  if you don't mind a potential last minute scramble then just bookmark the links ready to use.

I once flew Australia to Bangkok via Singapore.

I got my boarding passes for the internal flights in Oz and the international flight to Singapore. For some reason they couldn't give me the boarding pass Singapore to Bangkok and told me to go to the airline desk in Changi and get it there.

Got asked for a return ticket or onward flight by the agent in Changi, don't know what would have happened if I didn't have one. Spend the rest of my days in Changi airport?

The ticket was booked through QANTAS but in those days the Singapore to Bangkok was with Jetstar.

Crazy stuff, but typical Jetstar. Avoid them at all costs if possible.

Nothing wrong with Jetstar.

I find them excellent.

Note that flying with Jetstar to Thailand visa exempt most often an onward ticket is required.

Yes I had the onward ticket that I showed at QANTAS check in prior to departure from Australia.. The flights were all QANTAS with exception of Singapore to Bangkok.

Agree to disagree re Jetstar.

Pre-covid flew from China via Singapore (Jetstar or Scoot?) without a visa with the same complication.  Changi agent asked for my return flight, I said I was not leaving, was intending to apply for a non-O in Bangkok.  That was sufficient for that agent on that day.

After getting stuck in China during the covids and my non-O expiring, flew via Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific.  Fortunately, I'd planned ahead and purchased a $14 ticket booking.  Agent looked up the booking number on the flight reservation system and confirmed validity.

Just buy a cheap ticket to Cambodia to leave at the end of 60 days I have done this a few times and throw them away you can get cheap tickets for 40/50 dollars about1000 Bhat, however I have never been asked to see my onward ticket ever, touch wood. Or you can get the rental tickets but I dont remember how to get them, did it once a few years ago and was asked for it when leaving NZ but never asked in Thailand. Qantas is bad for asking for onward travel proof b4 boarding to go to Thailand.

Nearly missed my flight explaining to them I was getting an extension of stay in Thailand and Live with my Thai wife and family.
