  • I always get confused whether you're supposed to add the milk to the cereal or to the cardboard box.

In Big C Pattaya Klang yesterday I noticed a couple of promotions that might be of interest, perhaps more to the Brits on the forum.

A multipack of Cadbury chocolate buttons for 20 or 29 baht (sorry, picture didn't come out),  and 3 Pack of Birds custard:

Tonight I've come along to Big C Pattaya Tai (I'm looking for a new fridge), and see these on offer too:

It's the Shreddies that are 29 baht. A big box too.

Sell by date is a few months, probably why the clearout, but I thought some forumites might be interested, as I was.

I bought both the custard and chocolate buttons and both good thanks. Interestingly i was asking Deepseek about the Bird's custard and it thought i was making the custard for my pet bird

Never saw Foodland having a promotion and 2 for 1 price, they're well stocked with fair prices

but skimpy on promotions and giveaways, maybe business so good that they don't need to resort to marketing

tricks.

Shame about the thread @Johnlkuk

Just when I thought it could become a sticky, with updated promotions being added as and when found...

Glad to give something back to the forum 👍

Block60 is a fruit wine, and is clearly labelled as such

So what, most cheap ones are but they are far more than 209 baht and I have the bottle in front of me, no mention of it being a fruit wine on the label, in Englsih or Thai

2 hours ago, KhaoHom said:

Would you recommend it (for the price)? I assume it's 750ml

I recall years ago bumper crop of grapes in Oz. Wine in US was 5 bucks a bottle and had heard they were literally dumping wine rather than selling it.

Nothing wrong with it, they did 5 friends and sixty spokes as well for 209 baht also 13%, 750 ml

Foodland often do 2 for 1, it's always packed out when they do

Agreed

They run cheese specials often and sometimes items less than big C

But veggie prices expensive.

Reason I'm responding...they had an amazing deal on sun maid raisins. I bought three 500gm boxes. They were like 205b each. Even crap raisins are now b55+++

Best price for prosciutto in town. 179b 100gm.

I don't like the beef. Often dipped in blood. Yeah, others do as well...

I do blow through every once in awhile. Should do so more often

Didn't Carrefour in Thailand get taken over by BigC? Two stores near me definitely changed to BigC

You might find some products branded 'Carrefour' still sold in Thailand, at Tops If I recall.

Carrefour was purchased by a Thai group years ago and then resold to another Thai group. The Lotus name was contorted from Lotus to Lotus's to Lotus's'' or something crazy like that. From my knowledge it's competition for big C not connected whatsoever

Just for accuracy Carrefour was sold to Casino who were the controlling shareholder of Big C at the time before they were bought by TCC group -

You can still find Casino products in Big C. I have been buying their chocolate

Lotus stores were part of Tesco group from 2003 until 2020 when CP Group bought them back - so yes a different group to Big C.

Thanks for the clarification. I've learned something. I'm familiar with Casino from Big C. Years ago there was gobs of products. It's dwindled to nothing. I'm not a fan and knowing how highly the French value food was shocked to find it was a French company. I'd rate it something like Walmart level product. Perfectly perfunctory.

Thanks

We are in the Patts forum and I assure you Carrefour did not become a Tesco nor Lotus!

He is referring to the fact that Carrefour's shops were taken over by Big C, not Tesco/Lotus.

Oh, ok got it. I do recall on the sale there being some division of the stores I believe. Thx

Agreed.

Big C stocks some really stupid foreign food and ridiculously priced candy.

All of it is beyond expiry and they purposely put the discount sticker over the dates.

German sauerkraut label entirely in German. What Thai gonna buy that lol?

I see a few farang in one of my big c but not enough to warrant some of that ridiculous food.

My hobby is going around to Tops and big c swooping up all the stuff in sale. Need to be careful though.

Milk is always fine. Youghurt as well. Sweets hit and miss as is cheese. Just got bottle of white wine vinegar b205 for 80b

White Wine Vinegar? Hot date?🙃🙃

@KhaoHom You seem quite confused. It was a Tesco Lotus on Pattaya Neua, which is now just Lotus's. Carrefour was what is now Big C Extra on Pattaya Klang. They still carry Carrefour/Casino products. Please do not compare any European supermarkets and products to Walmart or any other US supermarket. US supermarket quality is junk, in the main. Wholefoods was the only place to which I went that rivalled any U.K supermarket. Even though Walmart bought Asda, the quality of Asda products was still higher than Walmart. Americans eat waaay too much crap. My opinion of course.

Seems a fair few confused people on this thread.

Thanks for that. I maybe vaguely recall something on Pattaya Klang. No matter, irrelevant to the thread.

I think Casino brand extremely marginal products all but we can disagree

I apologize to all of you. I've made a hash of the thread, over posted and attracted stalkers. I haven't lived in Pattaya since 2009. I am very much interested in bargains though. Chasing bargains is a hobby.

I won't post again and have only done so bc others have been kind enough to point out my misunderstanding

@KhaoHom Just to jog your memory of Pattaya Klang.

Coming up from Beach road, the first supermarket you would encounter would be TOPS(no longer there) on the first corner and BEST Supermarket(recently refurbished) on the opposite corner.

Then a long way up to reach Big C Extra. After that, Foodland.

Me too.

And I figured that quite a few forum members are living on a set amount each month, and would appreciate knowing what's on offer, when and where.

I still think it should be a permanent thread as it's got to be useful for some.

I couldn't believe the high prices in that Friendship supermarket last month

Coffee ...omg .. would be cheaper to fly to Australia and bring back from Aldi

,I'm not paying those prices !

No Sireeeee.....not this little black duck ...oh don't be racist please !!
