What I can't get is people who come to holiday here year in, year out, sometimes several times a year. While there are dozens of interesting countries to visit.

 

If someone has family or "some particular interest" here it can be be understood, but otherwise it is just giving away cheaply precious annual leave and hard earned cash.

I choose to live in Thailand because it's an incredibly high quality of life for many of us that are on limited incomes. I like the people quite a lot, I love their attitudes, their lightheartedness, their playful spirits, and their kindness. I'm in the US right now and it's very difficult to even get a smile out of a stranger. It's a very cold, very sterile, ridiculously over priced and joyless place to spend your life, and Thailand is an extraordinarily wonderful alternative to that. 

 

It's all about perspective if you don't have it life can be miserable, if you have it life can be a real Joy.

Pay the gas bill every month

Pay the electric bill

Pay the water bill

Pay the mortgage/property tax monthly payment

Pay house insurance with huge deductible every month

Pay car loan

Pay car insurance

Pay car inspection

Pay inflated prices for medical care and medications

Go bankrupt if I need to go to the emergency room

 

In Thailand, I need to:

Pay my house rent

Pay my electricity bill

Pay my water bill

 

My life is far less stressful and more enjoyable in Thailand. It's comfortable here. And I remember Covid. Those of us in Thailand at the time had it far better off than the draconian covid enforcement in the US and the rest of the West.
