So, the committed Nazi that stayed to the end and fell into Soviet hands fessed up to say what everyone wanted him to on both sides is a bit strange, and might have even been told to say that by the Soviets too, not to mention he might have been lying to cover for his beloved leader and buy time... we just don't know for sure. Verbal testimony, especially long after the deed is, well, inconclusive and open to being distorted... there are many reasons to lie to protect your leader or say what your captors want so that you might live. 

Not saying you are wrong, but there are many unknowns and variables... as the narrative on such topics are super important to those who control things.

Just saying that the evidence is shakey at best... people are often not forthcoming with the truth, they bend it to suit themselves and their situation... happens all the time. The truth is actually usually a very simple set of circumstances that happen at a certain time in a certain context and sequence of events... how you interpret it is subjective and open to personal bias, hence why people often describe it as elusive, as natural bias gets in the way.

Yeah, it's all convenient with the mainstream narrative and lets people be/feel easy... but is it the truth, well, guess we'll never know. These days, I'm distrustful of offialdom and its intentions... maybe I'm too cynical. But, fair play... we all believe what makes us feel comfortable, and those in control know it.
