Why is Thailand getting so close to China?

I mean really close..

Aren't Thailand supposed to be a strategic ally of the west??

Seems that may no longer be the case.

Good, just remember, when you need the IMF to bail you out of the mess again, don't come crying to us k...

Well they didn't.

It was western heroes who saved their lives.

Siam used to send yearly tribute to imperial China.  On less grounds than that Tibet lost its independence.

How do you know they weren't ... because (anti CN) MSM told you a nice feel good story, and you watched the movie  :cheesy:

Every country in the sphere of China is now under it's control through 'puppet friendly' leaderships. Friendly to the chore interests of China. It's no different to how America operates in it's own interests around the world.

If you are anyone with leadership aspirations in the asian region, and you are not pro China, you have not a cats hell chance of getting into power.

Go see what happens to any governments who go rogue and go against China, it's no coincidence those governments fall pretty quickly.

There will be no bail out to IMF's anymore, China is going to be there for these countries - but at a cost, that they are there for the good of China. I give you a case in example, these bullet railways being around South East Asia going into China. They are there to help the business interests of China, to dump cheap exports into these countries. It's just one example.

Trumps's idiotic ways has ruined hundreds of years of diplomatic relationships with many countries. Even India is now moving towards China's sphere.

When you get to prison make sure you keep in with the gang boss on the floor who basically runs the place. Power is flowing away from the US/western hegemon now and rightly so - every dog has it's day. Thailand has a head start as well 11% of the population and probably 90% of the wealth is held by Thai/Chinese.

Pre-Covid Chinese tourists came to Thailand in their millions; numbers dropped dramatically post-Covid as China encouraged her citizens to stay in China for their holidays.

Rama X is visiting China now. Will he ask China to send more of her citizens to Thailand for their holidays? What can Thailand give China in return? The right to manage casinos built in new entertainment complexes on land owned by Thai companies? Or something else? Something else being what?

Maybe it is because the USA have a president who tells his allies that he will not defend them (Taiwan, NATO), or that he levies excruciating high tariffs on them (Thailand 39%), or that investment by the Americans simply has been dismal over the last few years.

And China is literally a train ride away (if Thailand ever gets a train running from Nong Khai to the high speed rail link in Laos, that is).

And an American talking about the IMF is brave, seeing how you are not even able to keep your government running. The US is by now merely a joke...

What proportion of the Thai population has Chinese ancestry or Chinese ethnicity?

Remember, the Tai (sic) speakers arrived in Thailand about a thousand years ago.  Originating from present day southern China, other Tai speaking groups moved into present day northern Viet Nam, Laos, Myanmar and India.  But, that is history.

The first question, above relates to present day Thailand.

What proportion of the current Thai population have Chinese as a first or second language?

How many big Thai businesses have business interests in China?

How many Thai business people have close relationships with senior members of the Chinese Communist Party?

Of course, there is no need to address why there are so many illegal Chinese businesses and workers in Thailand, is there?

What do you mean "dump?"

Chinese goods are in shops all around the world because shoppers prefer them right?

Does Scotland dump it's whiskey in foreign countries?

Some countries would like to manufacture goods themselves.

A very tiny microscopic example, but Thai workers were at a a loss that the market was flooded with elephant pants manufactured in China, which was normally manufactured by local thais in factories here. Of course this is just a very tiny example.

But Thailand is a developing country and needs manufacturing for employment for it's population.

China is also still technically a developing country.
